I’ve never once liked commented or subscribed just bc the person says so in the video. Like do people really just go and click these buttons like “oh I wasn’t going to but since they asked here’s a like and oh yea I’ll hit the notification bell too”. If anything I’m more inclined to not comply out of spite/human nature of rebellion.
I also didn’t mean to post this in corona bowl, but I’m sure we’re all watching more YouTube than ever so
I never really think to subscribe to a certain series unless they mention it so I'd imagine that does help because I have done it based on hearing them say that.
Thank you for this data point. I didn’t know anyone actually does this. This isn’t a jab at you or anything my brain just works differently
the youtube algorithm loves likes/comments, so creators ask for that so they can be recommended to more people. i like when a creator says “drop a like and comment for the youtube algorithm” because it’s transparent why they are asking for it and if i genuinely like the creator, then it’s an easy and free way to support them
I didn't use to , until a friend of mine started a YouTube channel..and they said "support me by hitting the like and subscribe button" and so I did to support them

I subscribe to the people I like so that I can see their videos as they’re posted. I never have notifications though.

Like and subscriber counts count towards prioritization of videos being suggested to new potential viewers, and I believe certain functionality like live streaming requires a minimum amount of subscribers (10K?). I’m by no means a YouTube expert, but likes and subscriptions are definitely necessary to maintain a broadly successful channel.
The main point is: does telling your viewers to like and subscribe actually add value to your viewers/subs count, or will people who like/subscript do so regardless of whether you tell them to do so in the video
