Hi guys,
I am currently on notice period and my LWD is Sep 2, 2022. Today, I got an offer from state street mentioning my joining date as Sep 12, 2022 even though I already told HR that I would like to join from Sep 5 itself. How can I convince HR to prepone my joining date to Sep 5, 2022. I don't want to lose my one week salary guys. Pls suggest. State Street

Firm closed all offices across the country effective after today. Everyone mandated to work remotely. Very happy my firm took this seriously!
I work at the 9th biggest firm in the country (one everyone in here hates) and we’re business as usual despite the ability to work remote in every capacity and schools and courts in my state closing through the end of the month. Makes sense, right?
Damn Lewis brisbois sucks
Same - business as usual type. My firm even let someone go for expressing concern about their (lack of) crisis policies. What is this industry?! Just keep billing, just keep billing....
That’s an above the law shaming article just waiting to be written.
Fully remote. Partners, associates, paralegals and staff. We are a corporate shop and this really wasn’t a huge inconvenience. Video zoom, slack, email - brought our equipment home and we were up and running in under 24 hours. Most of our school districts are closed as of Monday (bay area) and we are all aware that our schedules will be rough but we have a culture of open communication and we’ll make it work, toddler, odd hours and all.
Mid size corporate shop - no file clerks. Everything is digital. Receptionist probably the hardest, but we started planning earlier this week and put together a few projects that others needed help with. Some people may be slow remote, but they’ll pitch in where they can.
We are about a 35 person (20 attorney) office just outside NYC and after communicating earlier this week, made the decision early this afternoon to work remotely. We were preparing all week for it to ensure full remote functionality. Firm is encouraging people to work from home until further notice. If they need to come in to grab something or do a small amount of work (and aren’t ill or potentially exposed) that’s fine because the idea is social distancing. The incoming mail and a few other essential clerical functions will be handled daily. Everything else can be done remotely. The health and safety of the employees is the number one priority.
We are about the same. We have created rotating (by day) shifts for everyone with mission critical functions that must be performed on-site. Those with critical functions can come on their day whenever they prefer, evenings included, to reduce density. We are also paying for parking to allow staff to avoid public transport.
We have upgraded IT infrastructure and issued firm laptops to all employees including staff. Everyone has been advised to be prepared to work from home and if that is the best choice, then that is what should be done. In some states, public health will ask us to close offices or we may make that decision voluntarily based on public health recommendations. Designated individuals will go in to handle on-site issues (mail, etc). We have a written plan for this that we have been updating as new information becomes available. Only by supporting our colleagues, both attorneys and staff, can we serve our clients. People need to be healthy, be able to take care of their families, and know that it will be OK. Stay safe and well out there, everyone.
Global V25 firm just announced mandatory WFH in all offices beginning Wednesday 3/25. Mandatory continued work thereafter during normal business hours. Told to take home any files needed during the next month.
Yes 3/25 was a typo, but for 3/18. Ended up moving the date up to the 16th. Handling filings electronically. So far things working surprisingly seamlessly. But it’s early.
Midsized firm. Our state closed all schools. All attorneys have been encouraged to work from home. Asked for volunteers to commit to stay away from the office completely for the remainder of the month to ensure coverage for client matters in the instance the office becomes a hot spot. I have the weekend to get everything I need to work out of the office (and the most sensitive members of my plant collection)
Same. Definitely going to grab my prized variegated monstera over the weekend!
They said we should be careful and wash our hands. That's a responsive policy right?
Sounds like my firm!
900 lawyer firm, we're being told it's up to us whether to wfh (except Seattle office, which has been closed for several days). All attorneys are already equipped to work remotely - we have fitm-issued laptops and VPN. We're equipping all staff who request it with firm laptops so they can wfh too. Plenty of hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes in every conference room/printer station. I think we're partially responsible for the shortages in stores, lol.
V20 form, almost daily emails, updates, and reminders. No mandate to WFH. But they asked if we’re sick with anything at all to do so. Also they’re fine with anyone working from home all of March, just put in protocols to keep teams effectively working together. Firms been advertising more aggressively at home tech capabilities.
My impression is that they are over communicating (a good thing), not overreacting, and adjusting in a thoughtful way. Makes me feel like they aren’t behind the ball - which is rare at this firm cuz most people think management is too unclear/vague.
Lawyers are permitted to do whatever they want but staff have been told they are not allowed to work from home at this time.
As long as that ‘some’ doesn’t include us, isn’t that right A11?
Fortune 500 company ... business as usual until an employee gets it and brings it to the office. Then we will wfh if possible for two weeks. 🙄
They changed this last night to wfh if at all possible and if you aren’t set up for it to come in today and they will find you a solution.
Same. Just cancelled some firm events and said we care about you and your family... do what you have to do but no official policy.
Nope. Our firm so far just sent an e-mail saying 'business as usual' and told us to wash our hands more. We are a small firm and in a place that hasn't been hit hard (yet).
Am relieved to say our large Pacific NW firm with several offices in region is strongly encouraging (but not requiring) everyone to work from home the next two weeks, including staff. We are fortunate that they’ve had a big focus over the last few years to get remote working really dialed in and it seems to be working well.
California State Agency —except for a few select agencies, we are all being told that we are expected to physically come into work (except for special circumstances) unless the state buildings close...which seems unlikely.
My firm just said to not come to work sick, even though schools are closing, and court dates are being canceled.
Most of Mexican Big Law has now implemented some form of WFH.
Vault 50 firm. Formally, optional WFH. In less official channels, strongly recommended to not come in.
