Have $100k in a HYSA. Relocating to NYC where rent is expensive. Do I buy condo (looks like I have 10-15% down payment already ) or rent for similar or higher monthly mortgage payments? Passed the stage of being ok with roommates. Looking for perspectives. TIA!

NYC real estate is its own beast. 10-15% may not be enough. What’s your rental budget?

Kept depositing in there over the last year because I thought I’d be a homeowner by now… thanks will check this out!

Together both are worth 120-140k.

Hi MBB Software Engineer fishes,

I recently applied for a position in one of McKinsey’s recently acquired firm for Senior Software Engineer (Team Lead).

The interview process is so damn easy - A medium level Hackerrank test, interview with company CTO and then behavioural round with a McKinsey Director and offer extended.

Wondering if this is a red flag.

Hot take, for those who received a stimulus based on FY19 or FY18 returns why doesn’t the government make people pay it back in the FY20 return if they don’t qualify based on the actual tax year stimulus was for? I understand why they couldn’t wait but IrS knows who received it so it isn’t hard to implement. Could have used the anticipated saving coming back to fund more stimulus for those who truly needed it.

I’m a homeowner and we have a 3.25% on a $600k loan. Likely needing to upsize to a $1.5-2.0M home (VHCOL) because of kids, but balking at the idea of paying $6-8k/mo in interest charges alone.

I’ve seen a couple posts lately with comments saying that people should not use a Roth 401k. Does the logic below capture the spirit of that concept?
1. Use trad. 401k to reduce taxable income now. Convert to trad. IRA once retired, then convert gradually to Roth IRA (ladder, SEPP, etc.) at lowest marginal tax rate
2. Use Roth IRA (and/or backdoor Roth) to take advantage of tax free growth and ability to withdraw principal early without penalty
