Have $300k at hand now. Already maxing our 401k and roth with a vanguard target select 2050 fund (worth $150k at the moment). Trying to figure out if I can start investing portions of $300k into VOO or VFIAX whenever market dips on certain days in the next few months. Thoughts?

I’m quitting my job and staying home for good. I need the charity :)

Just put in $30k per week. Should the market drop, you’ll be able to buy more per dollar invested. If it goes up, well that happens too. Long term, it doesn’t matter.

I'd also move those funds away from the target date funds. I found that the expense ratios on the index funds was a better bet. I'm 20-35 years from retirement.

like

OP, whatever you're putting the rest of your money into? Maybe diversify a bit. I don't have any recommendations as I'm also figuring this out myself. I started by moving half my money, but the index funds have been performing better so far. Seems like a safeish, better option overall. As my money has grown (currently at $200k), I've taken a closer look at the expense ratios as it started adding up to several thousand over the years.

This is actually quite subjective.

OP - how old are you?

like

35. But getting away from work soon due to personal reasons. Spouse makes about 120k per year. One 3 year old. Have about 200k equity in my home with 470k still in mortgage at 2.75% interest rate.

Bruvs u gotta put that ish in

I would diversify. You are putting all your eggs in one fund. The returns on those funds typically lag the market.

You don’t need multiple funds tracking VOO.

Just VOO is fine.

You could also do either VTI or VT, enabling you to track the entire US or entire global market.

Long term, either VOO, VTI, or VT are fine options.

like

VOO is a good play but think about asset diversification, too.

I’d think about a little in foreign stocks, fixed income, and maybe some gold. I’m talking like 15-20% total across all three.

But good work getting to this level.

Told my gf (26) that I don’t want to buy a house with her because it is more straightforward for both parties if we keep things separate until marriage. We have been dating 2 years and renting together for 1 year.
I (29) suggest she uses her money to buy property separately whilst I’m happy to continue living together, whether it’s at my or her place.
She adamantly refused and cried and says we are buying together and she doesn’t want her own place.
I was calm and reasonable. What do I do?
