Have a call with a recruiter today where I’m 95% sure I will receive an offer. If the TC is less than what I’d like, should I be hesitant & counter on the call itself or ask to take some time to fully look into the comp and then counter over email? Not sure what common practice is.

By now you should have talked about ranges so if it's in the range, take offline and counter through email If it's significantly off, I would indicate that it's lower than expected and let them know you would further review the whole package.

I guess in terms of etiquette on the phone call - even if I wait to counter, should I make it clear on the phone that the number is lower than what I’d like (if it is) or not show my hand at all & just take the information exactly as they give it on the phone before sending out my counter/thoughts over email afterwards?

Again, if they are way off >20k, then I'd kindly let them know that but that you need to review and compare everything before getting back with a counteroffer. That's just my personal opinion though. I think it's better so the recruiter can get some wheels in motion for a drastic change in the offer

I recently got a verbal offer from KPMG strategy. Is that more prestigious than like, most other firms? Like, I know MBB is done with recruiting; I feel like below MBB for name recognition is the Big 4 and other firms aren’t as reputable. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should interview and apply to other firms or just take this one (assuming a written offer ever comes along). Also, I prioritize work culture and exit opportunities over salary, but don’t want to be paid below poverty line.

How do you know when you have enough money? I got laid off in the spring, but don’t feel a pressing need to get a new job right away. Have 3 rental properties, all paid off, get about $3k/mth net from that, have about $200k in a 401k and another $200k in more-liquid investments. I spend less than $2k/mth and feel happy and comfortable. Not married and no kids... but would like that one day, so thinking of maybe saving some more money for that. Anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice?
