bigger shops tend to look better on your resume bc they show that you also know processes and opportunity to learn from those who are further in their careers. I always prefer being a small fish in a big pond to being a big fish in a small pond, but it all comes down to preference.
To clarify, I don’t plan to stay in either location forever. I’m also a Jr so my priority is to get “cool” stuff for my folio so I can move somewhere after a while for good. But obv staying somewhere I don’t like even temp would be a pain. Someone told me the bigger shops “name” will help me go elsewhere easier even if I didn’t do flashy stuff that will go in my folio. Oh, also when I say Big and Small shops i meant the team size. Both networks are equally recognised and big.
@Saatchi & Saatchi 1 - that makes sense but what if you get to work on award entries from start to finish or superbowl scale ads within a year of being a Jr at the small pond and could only do the same after 3 years at the bigger pond. Do you think being in the big pond would be better? I value your opinion but I’m just trying to get perspective from people who have worked longer than I have. Maybe there’s a big picture I haven’t seen yet so I’m trying to paint that
Honestly pulling through awards stuff is more valuable. Super bowl ads may not get you awards, and that’s an experience you’ll get down the line. (Also I’d be weary of trusting either with what they say you’ll be doing, they always lie to juniors. I learned the hard way...)
@CW 1 - ok maybe the example i gave was a bit of a stretch. I’ve had experience at the smaller shop before which is why i know i will be working on more than I could here in a shorter amount of time. It’s a tough call because that obv means i get to do cooler stuff quicker for my folio but the location is a real drag...
