Have a chunk of change ($150k) that will be used towards a down payment for a house in the next 8-12 weeks. Any advice on where to park it so I’m getting somewhat of a return while maintaining liquidity and minimal volatility?

I would leave it where it is. You need to keep it safe and the return on that for a couple months would likely only be a couple hundred.

like

I wouldn't be too concerned about returns for something you need in 2-3 months. Any HYSA (which is probably where you have it currently) is fine.

If you care enough, you can move it to Marcus for 1% interest for 3 months (with referral), after which it will drop back down to 0.5%; feel free to DM me for referral if you're interested.

8 - 12 weeks is basically “I need it now”. I would only consider a high yield account.

I wouldn't move that around. It's going to make your mortgage approval more complicated. The bank is going to want to see a trail of where all the money you are using comes from. You are talking about trying to make an additional $250 on that money and risking mortgage approval hassles. Do you already have an accepted offer? If you are still trying to find the house, you will need some of that money for the deposit which you will probably need to make within 3 days of offer acceptance.

Partners - Anyone have recs for a really great tax accountant? I have the firm doing mine but the person assigned seems too conservative and I’m losing money paying more taxes than I should (situation is too long and complicated to explain here). I need a third party tax accountant that fully understands US tax law and who’s sole focus is to ensure that I legally pay as little tax as possible. Thanks

I'm the only employee with a background in finance in a tech startup growing at a 300%+ per year. But it's actually my first finance-related experience (interned and now part-time as I'm in my senior year of undergrad) and don't know really how to have an impact as my knowledge is "limited" and have no technical mentorship.

Any advice/mentorship would be wonderful!

Hoping to connect with some others through DM, however need 11 likes.

Not completely an investment question but I’m going to ask anyway. In 2020 my daughter got braces. Based on consultation in 2019 I was told insurance pays $1,000 and my out of pocket would be $1,600 so I set up a limited FSA (in addition to HSA) in 2020 for the $1,600. She got the braces in Oct 2020 and I paid the 1,600 out of the limited FSA. I switched jobs in Dec 2020 and my insurance ended. I selected coverage at my new employer in Jan 2021 that doesn’t include orthodontia. Cont’d
