You’ve still got the interview so run with it. If you get to the offer stage, focus on value that you bring in addition to your other research on salary expectations. I wouldn’t worry too heavily about it.
Thank you so much!
I had the same thing happen with Amazon. On my end they explicitly asked in one of their screener emails so couldn’t really fully avoid. Just gave a number based on what I saw online but also made it clear it would be dependent on what I learned during the process in order to hopefully keep flexibility open. We will see!
Thank you so much
As FB1 said, tell them that was a preliminary number and it really depends on what you learn during the interview process. If and when you get to the offer stage, clearly explain how your qualities and skills meet the requirements and responsibilities of the role and you believe X amount is more align with your expectations now.
Thank you so much
First of all congratulations on getting the interview! A lot of people work very hard just to get an interview with FAANG and don’t succeed but you’re there. That in and of itself is an accomplishment but obviously we (and you) have bigger goals in mind 😎 I’m not sure if you’ve already searched your recruiter on LI but do it. From my experience they aren’t that knowledgeable about the technical aspects. They have too much to consider on the day to day. This is the easiest round you’ll have. They are supposed to be your friend. This is where you figure out whether they’ll really have your back or if you’re another person in the queue. Be honest about your experience, your salary expectations, and your aspirations for the next step in your career. At the end of the day you don’t want to waste your time going for something you don’t really want or isn’t feasible or they don’t really think you can get. Know your key STAR experiences. Make sure you know the lingo. And if you deliver on that, they’ll set you up for the next. Which is where you actually start to get into the mix. Anytime I’ve had questions that the recruiter couldn’t answer they say “that would be something for thr HM”, perfect 👍🏼 let me talk to the HM 😌😂
Thank you so much
You can always retract the amount provided, especially after an interview. There are so many variables to factor, for example if you learn the job expectations are heavier than expected. If their bonus is not equivalent or more than your current, lack of work/life balance. Those are just a few reasons. Good luck! 🍀
Thank you so much
You can still negotiate! You learn so much from the interview process that you still have plenty of room to figure out a new number that may be more competitive. Don’t be hard on yourself. A lot of places put on the pressure to get candidates to give their number first. If it’s a gig you really want, sometimes you cave. That’s ok. I’ve done both recently, ended an interview right away when they wouldn’t tell me a number and with another place gave them my number first because I wasn’t keen to start a tense exchange right off the bat. Good luck!
Thank you so much
