Have a senior consultant offer from a Big 4 and a product manager offer from a pharmacy retailer (cvs, walgreens etc), but both are similar roles in digital PM/strategy. Which offer would be best to take to help me eventually exit to the tech industry in a similar role?

The SC offer seems like more of a BA role whereas the product manager role is more of a true manager role. But Big 4 would allow me to work with multiple products and may be a better “brand name” so i’m conflicted

Tbh in big 4 you really have no idea what your first project is going to be. Sometimes they need a warm body and you’ll be put on something that they didn’t hire you for. You’ll be able to get to where you want with time and networking, but it can take a little while. My point being that if you want to be a PM, take the guaranteed PM role.

PM no doubt

Is it standard for companies to let you know where you fall amongst your peers during annual reviews or is that just a big 4 thing? I feel like it’d be more motivating to talk about personal progression and improvement areas than to define your performance against everyone else’s. I know you will always be judged against peers, but HR doesn’t need to disclose that

How long would you say a new job takes before you’re fully competent? My brother started a data scientist position 2 months ago and his manager said in a meeting last week that his “brand” is that he slow to respond to data requests compared to the previous person, and that there’s usually something wrong with the data he sends. I feel like 2 months is way too soon to expect someone to perform at the same level as someone who was there for over 2 years, what does everyone else think?

Serious question: how difficult is it to get straight up fired from big 4? Outside the layoffs last year, I have personally never seen anyone let go for any reason. There's always some PIP or transferring projects or some long review process that never goes anywhere. Anyone have any insight or stories? Just looking for some perspective.

If you’re planning to leave one big 4 for another and also switch from one service line to another, is it worth asking your current company to make the internal transfer happen instead? It’s something I just recently started looking into and I didn’t mention a word of it on my annual review just recently. It would 100% come out of left field and I almost feel like they would at a minimum want me to do another busy season in audit before making it happen. Almost feel like a clean break is easier.
