State Bags Bedford backpack is a great, professional-looking alternative to Tumi. I find most Tumi men’s backpacks to have way too much going on, the State bag is plain and as a plus the rugged nylon version also comes with a luggage sleeve.

Ferragamo backpack have served quite well

After an interview this morning, I sent out what was SUPPOSED to be a thank you email. I really should have stepped away from my desk and put my full attention towards it, but instead I rushed through it and am now realizing I didn't even THANK HIM FOR HIS TIME OR THE OPPORTUNITY! Ugh.

Does it come off as entitled as I think it does?

I’m a lateral that has done well from a review and work product standpoint. However, I have struggled to make social connections with people in my local office. I routinely go into the office and try to attend any social events when I’m free. I have reached out to be more involved in firm initiatives to facilitate meeting people but have been unsuccessful. How important is it to be friends with people outside of your practice group for promotion purposes?

Trainee here. A senior came to my office that I’m sharing with the team paralegal and complained about a mistake I made last week when we were filing. Everything was explained in a very politically correct but firm wording. I don’t know why my voice started shaking and my eyes got wet when I apologised. I felt so ashamed in front of the paralegal and now I’m just feeling so stupid :(

Advice on dealing with criticism of your writing? I write, my supervisor rewrites it, then her supervisor rewrites that. By the time it gets back to me, I just want to go with what the last person came up with because it's so much better than what I wrote, and I'm so weary of the repeated exercise. The process is taking the joy out of writing and negatively affects how I feel about the writing I do outside of work for mere enjoyment.

Does anyone have sound advice for dealing with nitpicking feedback from a skip-level manager? I'm all for constructive feedback but something tells me that this individual might be out for me. I've worked here for 5+ years, I'm good at what I do and I show interest in my work. The feedback I receive feels out of place.

Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?

How should I deal with a problematic supervisor? They are nitpicking on even quality work. And often, I’m getting the blame for not identifying other paralegals mistakes, when (from what I can see), the other paralegals simply get told “ohh it’s okay don’t worry”.

Should I raise this as I’m concerned about the impression my manager is leaving on the partners or will I be considered as someone who can’t deal with criticism?

How do you answer a client when they ask “How do you guys work those crazy hours?”.

I recently took a job with a top tier investment manager, which is a step up in title and responsibilities. I went through the typical “notice” conversations with my current employer. My boss, who was a significant supporter and mentor of me during my time at my current firm, told me that he doesn’t think my new firm is “long term” for me. Anyone ever get something like this before? It threw me off because I was hoping for his support, understanding that it’s tough for him temporarily

How should I deal with this toxic boss? A senior lead likes to reign with terror. She would call people out in meetings and gives really harsh feedback in front of everyone. When people try to defend themselves she keeps going with her criticisms. It’s always her way, or it’s the wrong way. I’m sick of her behaviour and with burnout, I just can’t be bothered to rationalise with her … but at the same time I don’t want her or other people to think I did something wrong . What should I do?
