Have an offer for a boutique consulting firm (<10ppl), with a 10% bump, but not as much growth in my area of expertise. Perks are less travel and maybe less bureaucracy. Late 20’s. Would you do it?

I’d pass. I joined a ‘boutique’ of <20 which is part of a much bigger advisory firm and some big negatives: - weak project pipeline -lack of breadth of work - lack of structure for new hires I personally think it’s quite worrying when the brand name of your company doesn’t really count for much in a space like consulting. This doesn’t apply to all boutiques but the big 4/MBB wouldn’t go anywhere near some of the work that my team pitches for.. -

C1 - thanks for the insights! Are you still with the firm? What made you join in the first place?

Boutique of <20? I don’t think it qualifies as boutique then. Why would you take such risk for just 10%?

OP - I joined as an entry level grad about two months ago. I think I bought into the whole story that they pitched me about competing with the big 4 but offering more responsibility and exposure. I also didnt grasp just how small the team was. I’ve decided to go back to law school in Sept so just going to do one year and bounce. If I wasn’t doing that, I’d be trying to exit ASAP. A boutique of 10 people is a huge risk and I wouldn’t do it in your late 20s. One partner leaving could leave the firm underwater fast.

looking for advice- need to travel to NJ from a high-risk state for a personal matter. It should only take 2 days to resolve and I will be traveling directly to my property and staying there until the issue is fixed, I do not want to stay the full 14 days as I have work and family members to take care of back home. What do you advise? For clarity, I don’t have Covid and don’t frequently travel (even locally) and only doing so out of necessity

Ladies, I have a dilemma. I know the choice is ultimately mine, but I wanted some input. I met my current boyfriend through my cousin and he lives in Chicago. The plan was for me to move to Chicago in the next couple of months. I planned on just continuing my job with PwC. However, I was applying for jobs in NYC and just received and offer for a company I’ve always wanted to work for. I feel like I’m going to have to make a choice between my job and my relationship. What would you do?
