If you like the role, I wouldnt fuss over couple %
3% at your level translates to like a couple hundred bucks. Life changing money huh 🙄
Yeah I know it’s only a little, but I just don’t want to waste my jump from big 4, I’ve put in my two years and want to leave but don’t want to be settling.
Pay isn’t the only thing you should consider. Do you like the company? Would you enjoy that role? Look at the job description. Don’t make a mistake. Evaluate the whole picture. If it’s worth it, then yes 17% is a good enough increase. Especially with no increases this year.
I think going in with a benchmark raise % you want to hit for your ego might be a but self sabotaging. I agree the amount is almost definitely negligible and just satisfies the mental desire to hit that nice round number.
I get it, I’m in talks right now and looking at a 45% increase which i wish was 50% just for the clout but it is what it is and I’d look kinda dumb saying hey i need like 2k-3k more on this already really fair offer. If they were at all on the fence about me and someone else, thats the type of thing that might sway the decision
I’d try and do a bit of digging if you have friends or acquaintances in similar positions
Here are a couple other items to negotiate on
Op it is totally fine to ask for more during the negotiations. The recruiters are trying to sell and don’t want to keep going back and forth. Unless you really want to leave ASAP or this company and position is your dream job/company, I would definitely ask for more. If they extended you an offer, you looked good to them and an extra few thousand would not change their mind.
