Is it common to take a base paycut to go work at a startup (1 YOE)? Got an offer for a really cool role at a series c startup that allows me to pivot career paths. Technically it’s a paybump with equity considered but obviously that would need to vest over time.

Debating a new job and was told I could expect RSUs ranging from $40-60K on an annual basis. When I asked for this to be written in the offer letter, I was told that because it is a “discretionary grant that is not contractual” it would not be in there. I messed up and gave a target salary instead of range to a recruiter. She mentioned that she wanted the info to take back to hiring managers. I've already been through two round of interviews and my last one is just a mock client presentation otherwise I would try and say "after learning more about the role my range has changed".
