OP, sorry to hear about the lay off. I imagine you’re in a tough situation. I haven’t worked at TCS, but I know a few people (all Indian men) who have - it’s an Indian services company. The culture will be challenging - hierarchy is extremely pronounced , internal cliques are largely comprised Indian men, almost no diversity, work will likely be in staff augmentation. So please prepare yourself mentally. If you have the flexibility (no visa or other constraints) to keep looking for another gig after joining TCS, I’d suggest doing that.

OP I spent 9 years in TCS before joining EY NO matter what firm u go. It all comes down to who you work with and how good you are. YES, the standard is sub par and you will have to swim through a sea of shit. Having said that, if u r good you can fly for real. There are so many of my ex colleagues who flew in their careers because they were too good for TCS. Now coming back to to your situation, if I were you 1) I would definitely take the job 2) Have a conversation to the topmost in your hierarchy..ON day 1. DONT wait for ur immediate manager to introduce. Nobody in tcs has balls to jump hierarchy. You do this on day 1, everyone from ur immediate supervisor is a bit taken aback and will be like "okay..we have someone playing different here" 3) from then on just let the work do the talking. Firmly saying No to any shit work given to u ( handle offshore calls, take meeting notes etc) And most importantly KEEP LOOKING. Good luck..

That is a fair response - thank you so much

This whole exchange is embarrassing to our profession

like

Omg..what are you doing? EY to TCS?

EY culture now is no different from the Large Indian IT farms. This is a parallel move.

You’re asking us to help you with a decision with inadequate information. So if I understand the pieces of answers you gave so far: Sounds like you were let go? If so, sorry to hear. With that being said - if you have no other options then take it for now but keep looking. Collectively we all think you should never join TCS no matter what but drastic times call for drastic measures.

I feel you and have been in a similar sitution. Job is a job. It pays bills and offers sponsored insurance. It will be a long search to find the perfect role in the current market condition. Pretty stressful without knowing when the next opportunity may come along. Take the job and make the most out of it. You can always look for a better one while on the job. Take care and good luck.

OP - simple. Just don’t do it. Why would you even consider this?

Don’t join. I will pay you 1 million dollars for it.

TCS is fuxking trash. Performance review process suck. Pay raise and bonus suck. TCS is only good if you want come to US temporarily on an H1B. Very unorganized company. Lots of favoritism based on ethnicity going on there. One pro about it TCS is that is super chill to work there. Hardly any stress at TCS.

In TCS, you will be at a disadvantage if you are not an indian male in terms of career progression. In addition, their business is not high-end consulting or value adding services. Its a purely aimed at bodyshopping of yes mans that never challenge the client. The way they carve out margin is by continously replacing skilled people with 0-1 YOE ppl and then appologize to the client. In India, TCS is considered lower tier for this, and other, behaviours - which makes it hard for them to recruit and retain talent. Which makes the above practice necessary.

Sometimes situation demands such considerations!! No hike in pay, no raise in role at TCS - but I need to find a job

like

@EY OP Have friends and former colleagues who landed at TCS. Like everywhere it depends on people you’ll work with and work you’ll do..if you end up in their Consulting or Strategic offerings groups that is a +. My friends have said there were regular hikes in base pay the last 3-4 years and performance bonus were straight forward and honored. In recent network session a friends said in spite of COVID, performance bonuses were given ( surprised me). They also confirmed like others have said here Account Leaders have grown up in TCS however their Horizontal leaders are from outside TCS (i.e. Big4, ACN, IBM, even some MBB) ..so I guess it will depend on what you’ll do, who you’ll work with and where in TCS you’ll sign.......good luck!

I knew that there would be a barrage of comments - that I why I am asking - to fully consider this option

like

You’re welcome. Hang in there!

like

If you have no other option then it is ok to join temporarily. Seriously very bad work culture, no appraisal and no review process. Join and start looking for better . While you are at TCS start practicing say yes and you will do better if you are good at bending your back 😂

like

OP, no one here can understand what situation exactly you are in.!! You need to weigh in your options.!! TCS brand name is obv not a good one in consulting .!
