The main reason the Bay Area is so expensive is rent. A 1bd on that salary is not a realistic expectation. A studio would be better around $2000/mo or you could get a room with housemates for around $1500/mo. Either of those options could give you a nice quality of living and healthy savings.
I make $105k, my rent is $2500 in a 500 sqft studio but my view is the bay bridge so I ain’t complaining & I also have other bills like phone, car, car ins, gym, food, gas. I save $2000 a month. Now that’s feasible if you’re like me where I don’t really go out since Covid hit. Hope that helps! Also don’t live with a roommate. Personal space is the way to go. You’ll thank yourself.
You will be able to manage fine with that. As C1 noted above, there may not be much left for savings.
Food and bars (if you drink) are also so much more expensive here. Plan to cook just about every meal if food is included in your $1500 living expenses
It’s perfectly fine but you won’t save very much. Gotta be ok with that.
How much is enough savings? I'm assuming rent is 2500 and regular living expenses would be 1500 -- I think that leaves around 1800 a month in savings but not sure if I'm being way too optimistic
A one bedroom in a decent location would be a stretch on that salary.
You’ll be living paycheck to paycheck.
OP, I’m curious to know what role/level/industry you’ve received an offer for. Is it possible to negotiate a higher comp based on location!
