Have an opportunity to move to Paris. The comp is quite good, but the taxes seem eyewatering (e.g. 50%+). Is there anything I'm missing? Any exemptions?

Yep it is
But not the average salary in paris is also much lower. So it depends on the pay cut OP is taking

If you live in New York or California, you won’t really pay much more by living in France.

Don’t forget that you will also pay US income tax as well.

Yeah, welcome to europe. Public pensions, transportation, education and health have to be paid somehow.
You could think in stablishing somewhere with lower taxes like switzerland, andorra, monaco...
Some countries (like spain) had some kind of tax heaven for the first 5 years of a highly skilled professional (aimed actually at footballers), but not sure if still a thing, or if it works in la france

If you're from the US wouldn't you be taxed as a non-resident? (20%)

@OP, where are you moving to Paris from? What's your current resident country? Need to know that to suggest if you are missing something in your calculations.

How’d you come across this opportunity OP? Hope you take it btw. One life to live! Money will always be there, experiences like this won’t

Suppose you are 3 months pregnant and interviewing for a job. Would you disclose to the recruiter that you are expecting or is there no need to give that information until after being hired? As for the compensation, if you’ve already been told pre-interview, the salary range for the role, is it appropriate to negotiate a number for the salary if you are asked your desired salary in the first screening interview? Or should you try to hold off on the negotiation after you receive an offer?

I was offered $42k plus bonuses at the interview, but when called back I was offered $44.5k plus bonuses. I already accepted. Did I leave money on the table here?
