Have any Europeans fishes have had any experience with the American healthcare system whilst on holiday? How expensive is it compared to the EU?

We Europeans usually travel with insurance so it’s hard to say what bills are. And also depending on where in Europe- treatment is free at the point of need so there is no exposure to cost. Tough question to answer

If you go to a hospital it will be thousands to tens of thousands. If you go to a general practitioner or “urgent care” it will be potentially be hundreds if not thousands.

Bills are insanely expensive compared to Europe. How much of that you actually pay depends on your insurance, but in 99% of cases the total you pay for insurance + co-pay will still be much higher than for the same treatment in Europe with insurance. Tl;dr: buy travel insurance

The trick is to go to the hospital and tell them you have international insurance. They will give you a bill and you just don’t pay it. Took a family member to the hospital when they got a fishing hook in their thigh. He was in there for thirty minutes and they used pliers to get it out. His bill was $3,500. He never paid. Im born and raised in America and supported that decision.

Sounds like a bad idea if you ever in the future try to live in America

Colleague said the PA call she just got off of wasn’t that bad. She said everyone with 50% or lower chargeability was already put in a bucket of people they’d look at to put as ‘not progressing,’ and that the stories from the CCs would end up being the differentiator. The only real bloodbath was the CCs fighting to try to keep their counselees out of the NP bucket. Most CCs came well prepared.
