It's only fair that some people are delayed due to maternity/paternity leave since having a baby is a choice. Should I be promoted at the same time as others if let's say I took 3 months off work to visit my parents in Europe? It's only fair to be delayed, especially if you miss a busy season.
In my office, we've had women have babies and even miss part of busy season and not be delayed promoting. If you're a solid performer, I don't understand why somebody "has" to be delayed. If they're capable of being a manager, I don't get the argument in delaying promotion
Get injured and take short term disability. That's technically what the leave is. It is PHYSICAL, not a vacation.
@Deloitte1 you are a waste of my time that I'd rather spend with my kids or working. If you ever have kids you'll understand, like so many of us who never did until we had them. Or maybe you're just destined to live a bitter judgmental life. Very sad how adding additional benefits for more gender parity is so bad in your view. And I never said there was something available to only childless, just said I think the time already given is important and should be respected. By nature, childless people may some day have children, you tell me anything that's available to childless that's not available to all people? Yeah, thought not.
You seriously make no sense. Wanting gender parity in the workplace (um hello, paternity is better for both women and men to make things equal for both of us) has nothing to do with liberal and conservative. Not sure how you read political status, other than you are a super judgmental person. In case you really care, I'm about as conservative as they come. I am just also a very ambitious woman. You want to win in your own mind? Fine, feel free. Thank goodness all our bosses and leaders agree with me, so sorry, guess I revoke that win card from you. I have better things to do then pay attention to a stupid app with clearly unenlightened and bitter people who don't understand how the human race survives. Peace out.
I had a baby as a senior 1. I'm now a mgr 2 with my second kid. I do think having a baby delayed my promotion to manager by a year.
Well you've still made manager so it appears to have just been a temporary hiccup. Congrats
I am on maternity leave now and a S1. Going to try to stay when I get back.
I don't think people know everyone's history of ratings plus there are tons of offices with thousands and thousands of people. She's fine.
She's fine. Apparently it just depends on the office. In my office with those ratings, even if you missed part of busy season, you could still promote. Probably just get a 3, but not held back. My office doesn't "unofficially discourage" or whatever
Have your baby whenever you want. I suggest you read Lean In.
@D1 perhaps you took three years to get promoted because you are extremely unrelatable and don't understand how the human race continues to exist
At ass senior 1 I bet you complain about the income gap even though you took 16 months of paid leave off and did no work. Also people who say that they only need two years, is the biggest excuse in the book. They know the firms are too scared to hold someone back because of the PC police
It's like he read Lean In and has a visceral reaction to it. In his ideal world, women would probably just drop out of the work force once becoming pregnant. Is welfare fair because only poor people get it?
D1, I'm actually male and don't have kids, I just find value in my female colleagues and encourage them to not put off having kids. Some of them desperately tried to have kids in the summer but either couldn't get pregnant or had a miscarriage.
D1 - you're an idiot with limited life experience. I'm guessing you're also voting for Trump.
I don't think requesting equality in 16 weeks of paid leave for a different reason is going against of maternity leave. As I said, I may want to have a baby myself some day and I'm glad I will have that time off. However, if someone wants it for other reasons, it's only fair to allow them it too for equality.
@EY6 I would say that link provided is pretty accurate!
OP: you went into too much depth.. People will know who you are..
Correction to my own post, meant to say the activities singles for also should NOT be held against them.
EY6 Who do you think does that work when you are out on paternity, the tooth fairy? Please tell me what activities only single people do that get them 16 PAID weeks off from work. I need to know what to start doing. Paternity leave is discrimination against those that choose not to have kids.
You still haven't told me what activities that are ONLY available to the childless where you get 16 weeks of paid leave. So now you are the person who decides what is important? Get real. Again who does the work when you are gone? It is not right that I have to do 3 busy seasons while someone else has to do 2 before being promoted.
