Have any new moms divided up maternity leave? For example, take two months. Go back to work for 2-3 months or more, then take another 2 months off?

That would have been more stressful for me so I took my six months consecutively but, my husband took his leave in smaller increments.

I did but I didn’t like it. If you are doing it to stagger with your husband I think that is fine, but I doing it for work not worth it.

like

No- I found it incredibly hard even thinking about switching back n forth

I was not even CLOSE to feeling ready to go back at 2-3 months

Whatever you feel works for you. I wasn’t ready to go back after 3 months so I took my full 5 without any regrets. I’ve had friends that need more of a break and eager to get back to their “normal” work life and have staggered it but it also made sense with their work/life.

I’m about to do 3 months go back to work for 4 and then finish with 2 month. With lots of PTO during my husbands 4 months off. I want to be home for different stages of my baby; also live in a cold place and don’t want to just get stuck with winter months off. I’ll say so far my teams have been supportive. But I do recognize it’ll be hard to take any leadership roles back while I’m only there for 4 months.

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat more. With the way our leave works you may run into issues. You have the 8 weeks of short term disability. Then the 8 weeks of parental leave must be used within the first 6 months of baby’s life (so your project could only be 2 months long without risking leave. That’s hard to time). The firms also not well set up for multiple ramp ins. I went back after two months because I was so so done being home. But it was part time to an internal role.

I feel terrible. My mum and my husband both told me I am fat and need to lose weight ASAP. They were not trying to insult me, they both really think they have my best in interest. I am a mother of 11 months old twins, am still breastfeeding and currently have 11kg more than before pregnancy. I was always skinny and before pregnancy wore size 8. I feel so bad for hearing that, and feel like a failure on all levels.
