Have any of you had a live in nanny? If so, what are the costs? I’m considering this for my second baby. My husband may be out of the country for six months during the first year. Our other baby will be about 2.5 years old.

Au Pair is probably the most reasonable option. Had a friend that did it and loved it. Wonderful young woman from Slovakia stayed with them for 1 year. They have a certain amount of hours they can work per week, I think its 45 max. And there's certain things they can't do. But they can be a huge help. My friend had 4 kids including a 6 month old and once she was settled in they were able to go on date nights and things like that. And when he was at work she was a massive help for dinner and bed

If grandparents are up for it, I’d rather use the nanny money to pay to have grandparents live nearby for a few months-1 year. I rented an apartment for my parents after the baby and it was the absolute best.

Thank you! Unfortunately the grandparents aren’t up to it so I’m looking for other solutions.

I have an au pair. I am more than happy to chat. 703-405-2122.

Thanks Washington - I’ve got the toddler by myself right now so can’t call.

Can’t speak thoroughly for Seattle but was well versed in all the options while in NYC before our move here. If you have the space in your home, an au pair can be ideal. Definitely go through an agency though. I’ve had friends who had really tough situations (dui car wrecks in borrowed cars by the au pair) and if the worst happens, it helps to have a legit contact to call and help. Obviously not the norm.

Not a full, ideal solution but we aren’t fans of live-in help, and my husband also travels a lot. We don’t have family and its hard, but the bambino app has been great for getting sitters. Also Seattle mom and dad groups were helpful to find wonderful teenage sitters who could help with the morning rush while I was the house on calls.

What do you do at night to relax? I was discussing with my SO who never worked in public and has a great career (Manager FP&A) and he is shocked that my weekdays are so filled with work. My husband and I have concert tickets to a big outdoor festival that was cancelled for covid and is now happening in late August. His brothers and some college friends are flying in to stay with us. We just found out we're pregnant and I'll be 9 weeks by concert time. We aren't ready to tell anyone but we can't think how we can ask them to cancel without explaining. We are all vaccinated and are in SF so cases are low, but not zero. Any advice?

How many of you corporate America moms looooove your jobs vs view them as a necessity to fund what you like and enjoy? Heading back to work after maternity-2 and can’t seem to get myself excited about it. I love having a career, accomplishments, financial independence, ability to afford a nice lifestyle, plus I would make the worst housewife. But daily grind, dealing with crazy personalities and general pointlessness of my line of work (corporate tax consulting) is filling me with dread. Welp!

Mom's in this bowl, or anyone, do you feel like the place where you work discourages or penalizes women for getting pregnant or wanting to have children? I realized recently that most if not all of the women I work with don't have kids or have expressed that they don't plan to, and I'm wondering if that's intentional.

How often do you and your partner have sex? I’m frustrated that my SO (female) is interested maybe once a month (based on a record of 2-3 years now). We are both working with decent WLB, aged 30 with no kids. She keeps giving various reasons including physical health, stress, etc. with no solid plan or commitment to increase the frequency.
Any suggestions to improve the situation are also welcome.

While most teachers are protected by teacher unions, I feel my voice hasn’t been heard at all with my concerns of going back to school next week. Our diocese has decided on full return 5 days/ week for all 42 schools despite a recent increase in COVID in our communities. Every other school that I know of in my state is either choosing remote learning to start the year or a hybrid approach, yet that was not an option for us. Are other Catholic schools I.
