I started with a full leg splint using a walker one year. My doctor wrote a release as I could do my job based on the job description. ADA accommodations kick in if your doctor says you can do your job so they need to be cautious or you could file a complaint. I also worked with a shoulder immobilizer on my non dominant arm. It was hard because I got tired from the position but I did it. It was also a workman’s comp situation so they were glad to let me be there ( a student did a leg sweep and broke my shoulder). I was lucky in both cases to have an amazing administrator who was willing to accommodate me.

Thanks for sharing. Its sad that you had to go through a student physically harming you. I swear. If the general public knew what we had to go through to be teachers and remain teachers.

I reported to work with such sever joint pain I couldn’t hold the pen to sign in and I had to ask a parent to help me close my trunk. My principal just said, “If you need help just let me know and we can get some accommodations.”

I broke my dominant hand and was in a cast then splint for a total of eight weeks. I worked the entire time with no accommodations. One thing that was SUPER helpful was voice to text on my MacBook. I would have to go back and make some corrections to what it typed as it wasn’t perfect, but it was still faster than trying to type it myself. I would recommend using it:) Best of luck and hope you are better soon:)

I found that there was personal care that I could not do. When I told my principal that I could not work, mainly because I couldn’t button my pants, he said, “You’re killing me, Smalls…” He had fifteen out of 45 teachers out on COVID leave, and five subs.

Yeah, buttoning my pants was beyond my skill set for eleven days. I thought that they would have a problem with me going to another teacher to button my pants after I’d visited the restroom…

Our docs have to write a note, if they’re are limitations or accommodations we need. You don’t have to go on leave for a splint or a brace on.

Check with your union.

I would take a look at your contract, speak to your union rep, and also listen to your conscience if you don’t feel like you would be effective at work then you probably need to take some time off. Teachers works so hard, so take it easy on yourself.

I broke my hand several years ago and had to wear a cast for six weeks. I honestly didn't ask for accommodations. Typing was a little weird until it healed enough for me to move my fingers, but otherwise it was fine.

My district is very on top of accommodations, and they need frequent doctor updates. So, have your doctor write what your restrictions are at each follow-up appointment. Your district should accommodate these restrictions.

Accommodate as long as my doctor cleared me for work.

Unless your position is physical (ie severe special needs), I don’t see why you couldn’t do your job if it’s your non-dominant hand?

6th year L&E associate here and thinking about transitioning to a position with better WLB. How do you go about getting a government job and are they flexible about WFH, at least a couple of days a week? Recruiters reach out all the time, but always about other firm positions. Tips/ advice much appreciated!

Is this an accurate distinction? High performer: Exceeds expectations for role and level. Operating above level. Mid/average performer: meets expectations. Gets the job done but nothing above and beyond. Low performer: does not meet expectations for role and level.

Anyone could recommend a career coach who is familiar with our industry? I was recently hired after being unemployed for a year due to Covid. My team is amazing, my colleagues are super helpful, but my I hate the work. I found myself behaving very out of character, unmotivated at work, unwilling to speak up, and awkwardly at socializing. I don’t know if it’s me or it’s the work. Think I could really use some help from a career coach. Thoughts? 🙏

Hi guys, I am due to start working at EY soon within audit. I will be commuting to the office by train when in the Birmingham office. This will be from Leicester. Usually if a commute is about 1.5 hours+, Mazars authorises hotels. Is there a similar policy at EY? When not in the office I would prefer to drive to clients, not sure if me being in Leicester affects whether they will tell me to suck up an extended commute? Would a mileage claim be from the office to the client? Thanks!

My body physically aches from the lack of sleep and pure state of stress I’m constantly in. Any encouragement? Something?

Has anyone had experience with a biting toddler? My kid is the daycare biter (21 mo) - he never bites us or his older sisters so it’s not been a behavior we’ve seen at home since he was about 12 mo. It seems like sharing toys has been the trigger lately, but today he just walked up to a kid and bit them! We’re at our wits end and stressed out waiting for the phone to ring for another early pickup. We role play sharing at home and practice using our words. Is there anything else we can be doing?
