It funny how when your want to work outside the country you can't because of tax reasons, but when I'm on vacation outside the country they ask me to work.

likesmartfunny

This happened to me. So i did work on vacation and just reported my hours and location truthfully.

There are still major tax implications for this

like

“Major” tax implications is incorrect. It would depend on which country you are visiting. Plenty of countries have created visas for remote workers and while you still owe US federal taxes, these programs are created so you don’t have to pay taxes to the country you are working in. Implications of data privacy and the client you are working with is a different story, but I’m assuming the majority of our clients have some type of offshore model already. This would impact very few clients.

like

As long as it's kept under the radar it's generally okay. When I go back to the US to visit family I usually put in a few days while I'm home.

What is the work from home policy at AM and HL? Fully remote or few days a week/month?

I’m fully remote for 2 years now. More productive than ever. Present for my family like never before. Have met more people from my company than I would’ve if I’d rely only on bumping into them. Have a much more focused, open and dynamic creative process with my teams. My company doubled size. Why would anyone consider going to a physical place to do work that’s delivered digitally ever again, even if for a day per year?

I have noticed a major increase in remote roles for various companies. What is driving this change?

How did you set your rent budget when moving in with a partner? I make £125k base (£167k inc bonus), and my boyfriend makes £95k base (£105k inc bonus). I’m used to allocating 30% of my take-home pay to rent, which is about £1800/mo for a charming neighbourhood in zone 1, but my bf’s used to paying closer to £1000/mo to live in zone 6 and balks at the rent prices I think are reasonable given our incomes and locations we want (zone 2). We both wfh so ideally want a 3BR. (Continued in comments)

I was let go during the pandemic and I 100% believe it was because I had kids and could not work around the clock. I’m enjoying freelance and was recently offered a full time remote position. I’m just wondering if anyone has been through this and has any thoughts about going back FT v freelance. I can’t be sure that my freelance work will hold and FT has its benefits. Would welcome any thoughts or kind words.

Any recommendations for a hybrid robot vacuum in terms of price-performance Ratio or important buying criteria? WFH makes it necessary and I want to treat myself :). Key information: floor is parquet, so I guess it should have dry/wet/wiping functions, don’t have any pets, thought I want to spend 300€ max. but no clue if investing more is worth it. Highly appreciate any input :)!

COVID WFH has put me several time zones away from my client (I’m further west and their culture is to start the day early anyway). It’s a new project so I don’t have relationships built up. Hi ladies, I need some advice on how to navigate/build a relationship with my fiance's family. Some of his siblings and family members are very standoffish and distant. For background, we are same race different culture. I'm very open and I've learned a lot from my fiance over the years. However, I believe his family still sees me as an outsider and they don't invite me to certain things. At times, it feels isolating and it makes me feel unwelcomed. They're also supposed to be in my wedding.

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

What is a typical time for an offer to be extended? Had one informal coffee, followed by a Zoom interview with four additional attorneys, and then an in-person interview with the practice head and the hiring partner (who was present at all of these). Talks went very well, and conversation ended with how they just needed to talk to the people responsible for next steps(finance). Last meeting was one week ago. Big firm.
