Have any of your firms discussed a flexible WFH policy post-pandemic? I’m happier & my hours are through the roof. I want to approach management with policy ideas for people like me who are thriving.

Our firm just sent around a McKinsey survey that asked about our post-pandemic WFH desires. It seems they are sending out feelers to potentially adopt a more flexible WFH option once things return to normal.

Same! Following. Although I think it will take a long while before the firms start mandating work from the office ...

I think most the attorneys at my firm are assuming that we will be able to continue to work from home so long as our performance stays where it should be. I think it is unlikely that my firm will make a clear policy about this and instead we all plan to continue to do so so long as it doesn't affect our productivity.

Many firms will probably allow for a flexible policy, but you should bring it up with management. And if they are unwilling, then know that there are firms out there called "distributed" firms that are fully WFH - the only difference is that you have to bring in your own work - i.e become a Rainmaker.

I’m much happier too, and would love the option to WFH more. However, when I asked our Chairman (Am50 firm) he basically said no, because it would “upset the glue of our firm.” Firms are notoriously slow to change, and I don’t think many will fully embrace remote work post COVID, although they should. Our firm calls to discuss back to work go like this: “I know it’s hard, I know everyone cannot wait to get back to the office...” who are these people who can’t wait to get back to commuting 1-2 hours per day? I feel much more connected now than I did before. Before, I’d commute 2 hours round trip, interact with *maybe* one person briefly each day (other than planned lunches, CLEs, etc.), and every partner I tried to interact with was “too busy” even for cooler small talk. I think my chairman really overvalues our “glue” and “culture.”

Articling student in Canada (8 month internship with potential hireback), currently doing transactional work. I’m WFH and having a hard time building relationships with partners. I’m friendly/chat with associates and am on great terms with one partner who gives me work often, but not much else. The firm “encourages” reaching out to partners to chat, though I’ve tried and been essentially ignored. Partners rarely have enough time to give me feedback, so I feel they don’t have time to chat.

Does anyone have any experience with the relocation clawback provision recently? I took the payout option and have been preparing to move, but just found out I was approved for permanent remote work. I am grateful for the option, but still plan on eventually moving to the Bay area and if given the choice not until after a year or more. For employees who eventually did not end up moving within the year (but were still with Google) did the clawback provision still get exercised?
