I've thought about it. In my district they do all of the testing for evaluations. I decided to go the behavior route and got a MSE in Autism Spectrum Disorders instead. I plan on using that degree to do some freelance stuff with families needing more help that they get from the school day.
I have been thinking of getting my Masters in Behavioral Sciences concentrating on Autism. I might have a few questions about working towards that.
Our school psychologist used to be a special education teacher
After one year back in teaching, I decided to go back to get my SpEd Director certification. I saw too many problems that I wanted to fix but couldn’t as a teacher.
Good luck getting a job. I’ve done the same but am very discouraged due to bad luck in that respect. 😕
I'm a School Psychologist (always have been), but after working with our Special Education teachers for 10 years and seeing the incredible amount of stress they are put through (particularly in our current hybrid model), I am so glad I chose this career path.
Im starting my master program to eventually become a school psychologist. This will give me an opportunity to get out of the classroom in the future.

Too many problems and not enough time. Congrats and thank you for advocating for students and teachers.
Im a Special Education teacher who teaches resource and behavior classes. Im also the PLC leader and MET Chair. This will be my 6th year in this role and this is my 8th year teaching. I have my admin certification and now I want to pursue an assistant principal position do you think I have had enough classroom experience for this?
Having taught both general and special education, I can honestly say there is a difference in how you structure and manage a class as well as in how you approach your lesson preparation and presentation. In my opinion, you have the experience to be an administrator as long as you keep in mind that an administrator is supposed to be someone who can help others grow as teachers, too. Stay open minded and listen to the people who are in the trenches before making big decisions. Keep learning yourself. Good employees don’t quit jobs...they quit bad bosses. Study the districts with excellent teacher retention. What are they doing differently? I have a gut feeling you will be a great administrator. SpEd teachers have to be experts in creative problem solving, and that’s an attribute all admin need. Good luck.
