Have been getting hit up by places about great jobs I’m excited about, but they happen to be at places with known diversity problems. I can’t shake that feeling that they’re talking to me because I’m a POC and they need to diversify, not necessarily because of my experience and skill set. Anyone have advice of how to fight that feeling? Other advice?

Think of the people that you’ve come across in your career. Do you think they all got their title/great job because they had the best experience/skill set? If you’re confident in what you’ve achieved so far then believe that you’ll have what it takes to succeed in your new role regardless of what initially got you in the door. If you don’t like it, then you just set a new salary and title baseline and can move on to something better.

So if you think your diversity is a contributing factor for their interests or if they'll benefit monetarily from bringing you (a poc) on, both which will ALWAYS be true, make sure they pay for it...

Im currently in the same boat. I have to give them an answer soon and I keep worrying that I’m going to lose all the self confidence that I had to rebuild after being at a nightmare agency. There were already so many red flags in the interviews itself. But it’s an account I’ve always wanted to work on so it’s making this decision really tough.

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Looks like the firm “supporters” are inaccurately “reporting” posts that demonstrate a diversity of thought (i.e., share any perspective that is negative from theirs). Shame on you for doing that and stopping staff from sharing their perspectives in 3rd party open forum that is not officially affiliated with CV in any way. This bowl isn’t meant to be a place to toot your own horn, CV. It appears to give a voice to staff in a safe place. See posts for a few that have been recently reported.

There is a lot of discrimination in my school in regards to LGBTQ and gender representation. My schools dress code does not say anything about wearing gloves or black nail polish and I got in trouble for wearing that. My boss said “I’ve never seen a man wear gloves before.” Am I a jerk for thinking that’s discrimination?

I’m currently on severance after being at a tech firm that cut the majority for their staff. I am in late stages hoping to receive an offer late this week. I am concerned about the hybrid working model. More so about moving cross country. I enjoy where I live, have a great network, and the place where the offer is has very little diversity and I know no one (and quite frankly have never been). Is there a way to negotiate hybrid? I know some of their team works remote.

Hey team! I've been thinking about what success would mean in terms of this platform and general inclusion in the team. These are some of my thoughts:

1. Frequency of positive engagements (positive in a productive, constructive sense)
2. Increasing numbers of people engaging in each topic as they get more comfortable using the tool and airing their opinions
3. Some measure outside the app of team engagement in day to day interactions (changes in psychological safety)

What are your thoughts?

Trigger: rare illness post birth

Just sharing that I was diagnosed with postpartum preeclampsia 3 days after giving birth despite not having risk factors or preeclampsia in my pregnancy. Sharing as I had absolutely no idea about this illness.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.
