when you say your eating habits are decent, what does that mean? clearly you’re consuming more calories than you burn, which isn’t decent. eating foods that are perceived to be healthy (e.g. chicken, fish, salad) isn’t helpful if you’re eating too much of them. calories in, calories out. count your calories coming in, keep them below a certain number (i would say under 1800 if trying to lose weight), and increase your calories going out (exercise). a few months of this and i promise you will notice a change in that timeframe.

I was at 290 pounds. Down to 175. Took about a year. It took lots of cardio, eating clean, and not breaking the habit.

I am no expert, but I’m happy to tell you what worked for me. Looked at my health one step at a time... starting with what I put into body - step by step, day by day, meal by meal (one day at a time) and eventually really understanding how my body reacts to that food. This takes time. And results can be accelerated with fitness - both physical and mental (equally important). And then measuring yourself when it makes sense- you’re not going to see results every day, but maybe understanding them over each week or month...is also recommend building a support system around you, sometimes takes time to build trust but extremely helpful.... and small wins add up over time

You're definition of "decent" may be others of eating lime crap. Keep a food journal and jot down what you eat and drink on a daily basis- be honest! You may be surprised to find out your diet isn't that decent. Start slowly finding ways to tweak your diet - take out unnecessary sugars, limit processed food, limit alcohol intake. Then add in some physical activity to your routine. As long as your realistic & committed to making a change, it will happen. But if you see this as "I want to lose 20 lbs for a wedding" then it probably won't stick. Being Healthy isn't a one time thing; it's a lifestyle.

Thank you for your post. I am 5’8 and after 2 babies in 3 years my weight has ballooned to 250 pounds. I am exhausted all the time. I am going to try and start small. 30min walk three days/ week. Drink more water. Reduce sugar

I find when I actively measure calories in vs calories burned, I am more successful. I am loving Orange Theory and my fitness pal. I also use OT heart rate monitor for activities outside of the studio.

Definitely keep a food journal and track your macros. I found the book The Obesity Code really helped me to understand how horomones impact weight loss and gain - it’s not all about the food. But we’re designed to hold onto some storage so we can survive the next famine. It’s an uphill battle but it can be won

like

Rather than count calories and log a journal (I don’t have time for that) I set rules and stick with them: no wheat (including flour, which cuts out 90% of junk food), no dairy (no cheese, no milk,no butter) , drink 1 gallon of water a day. If you start there I guarantee you’ll start losing weight.

like

And personally I feel it’s more sustainable than counting calories for the rest of your life.

like

Honestly tracking my food (several free apps out there) was the biggest eye opener. You may think you’re eating decently well, but once you see the nutritional information for your full day, you may realize you’re actually eating 2800 calories per day. I’m most successful when I work out 4-5 days a week and track everything I eat. You will quickly learn which things you like splurging your calories on and what things you are willing to do without. So many ‘healthy’ foods are loaded with sugar and other junk that until you start really tracking, you have no clue how ‘healthy’ you are being. Weight watchers is a great way to get started, too if you want a formal program.

Great advice D1!

Guys great points all ... thanks much. Definitely need to closely evaluate and monitor food habits. This is definitely not a lose quick thing I want to do, but more so about making a healthy and sustainable life change

D6 - I think a great start is just accepting that there is a problem

“Decent” not good enough sorry op

I quit drinking at the first of the year because I was drinking too much as a way to cope with Covid. 99.9% of the time, I’m glad I quit drinking. And then there are those nights when I just want a glass of something to take the edge off, which makes me think alcohol was more of a coping mechanism than I thought and it’s probably a good thing I’m not drinking. I don’t even like wine very much, but I miss that low level buzz that makes everything a little less loud.

I’ve worked in a toxic environment for so long. I recently got hired at a company that really values my well being and genuinely cares about my day. It makes me feel so uncomfortable because I’m overthinking everything. I’m trying to unlearn all the bad habits and to embrace the support from my new company. I also don’t want to bring in any toxic traits into my team unknowingly. It honestly feels too good to be true to be at a company that cares so much and listens to what I say.
