Have been thinking of getting my CFA (already have CPA), and want people's experiences. I majored in accounting, so wondering how impossible the CFA would feel since I only took 2 finance classes.

I would suggest moving out of accounting because to get your chapter you need 4 years of work experience involving investment decision making.

So, if we work as a SALT associate and study for CFA, we could still use our tax experience for CFA??? I know for sure that we could use the experience for CPA, but can we do both???

A friend of a friend (majored in accounting) passed CFA level one without much trouble but needed to study for the other levels.

Question: if you do CFA, will company pay for your exam/course materials fees?

Currently studying for level 3 - I thought level 1 was just an in depth review of the finance concepts learned in my 300 level finance classes (aka the first 2 finance classes that you took). It’s very formula driven, but comparatively to the other parts, the easiest. Level 1 is just the weed out level

Same here. I’m planning and thinking about CFA. What is your plan for CFA? I want to do CFA cause I’m insecure lol

What is the partner compensation like at BDO? Base/equity as well as pension. I heard there is 5 years as fixed partner and then 10 as variable partner before you can earn pension. Say you make partner at 40, so can’t earn pension til 55. If you retire at 55 does that mean all you have is whatever you’ve contributed to 401k or otherwise saved? Or is there a lifetime salary if you’ve been partner a certain duration?

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?
