It is what it is and that's why you won't get promoted. There is a reason you have been a senior for so long. Everyone else can do it, what makes your situation so special that you get a pass? You don't.

like

To clear up the misunderstandings here- in PWC audit you need CPA to make senior. PWC tax you need it to make manager. In PWC tax groups some (or maybe all, not sure) accept other certifications such as the EA exam. The bar is acceptable as well. For those groups that accept the EA, it can take you through to director (not sure about MD) but for partner you need either the CPA or bar.

Did you not know that was coming?

No one will do that for you. No one wants a manager without a CPA.

How is this surprising?

They're all like that, and it's super common knowledge.

Yeah CPA is required to be promoted to a senior associate at PwC so that wouldn't work

Sorry to break it to you, but you're stuck without your CPA. If you haven't been motivated to pass (or capable, for that matter) by now, what makes you think you deserve a promotion? Honest question!

I thought you couldn't make Senior without a CPA.

D1 - you can become a senior without CPA.

That being said, even in consulting I'm also hesitant to hire someone at that level without their CPA if they have the accounting background. I see it as a red flag when someone has the requisite education and experience but not the cert...

No life events put the exam on hold. Only down one part now then I'll be done and will be able to move up. Just taken longer than I'd like but I've never been under the impression I could move up without it
