Never leave for less than 20-30% raise

Also, does this calculus change when the position offers a pension? This one does.

I’d probably take it, public sector plus raise is great, you can always go back private later. Where I used to work if you had DEP experience you were pretty valuable

Agree with D1

If financial goals are your only objective, agree with the above. However, there are a few things that I’d also want to know more about. Things like work life balance, personal interest in the job, and impact on future opportunities are all things that could make me go one way or another, depending on what I value

I think I’d pick up work life balance (I have a new born) and job stability would be the main thing vs. My type of consulting is feast or famine. Unsure how familiar you are with CA Environmental consulting, this would broaden my skill set by doing nationwide environmental (NEPA work), and I’m not handcuffed to CA anymore (I could move out of state if I wanted).

Ridiculously beginner questions but: 1) is the max 401k ($19,500) that you can save per year including employer contributions? 2) hypothetically what happens if I set my contribution rate too high and don't correct it? Let's say I make $100k and set my rate to be 30% which would result in my saving to much. Are there safeguards against this or do I get penalized? Thanks!

In my 6th year, I've gotten to the point where I will simply say no. There are 3 partners that like to ask me to help on projects but they're terribly disorganized and poor communicators. Now I just tell them I can't help on their projects - too busy, not enough capacity, whatever excuse. . I've got plenty of hours without their work. Anyone else do this?
