Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/ Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

I would go for #1, risk and compliance is mind numbing and do not contribute to the bottom line.
Protiviti has a mixed reputation, I have had good engagements with them and also quite mediocre/poor ones. They are not the most polished of the consultancies and tend to be light on supervision (which IMHO is bad for junior staff). US Bank is a super regional - not a horrible thing. Has a “meh” reputation in NYC. For sponsor finance, I’d have to consult the league tables in more depth…but they seem OK (T20)?
I'd take the bank offer and run - i worked in risk/compliance for 3 years out of UG and hated it. Most people i know are looking to leave
Would you say that’s firm dependent or just the practice in general is horrible?
Comp? Prestige of firm? Exit opps for consulting are usually industry or MBA.
What kind of risk and/or compliance? Be wary if it is AML or something like that…
I would hazard a guess that it's the practice in general. At D, in my experience, there was little actual Advisory work and it was primarily audit type exercises (without the financial knowledge to lean on when you ultimately want out). I can't comment on your other offer but I wished I hadn't settled for what I did
As someone who has worked in both risk/compliance (both consulting and in-house) and front office AM - take the analyst role, no question. You’ll have way more options if you don’t like it. Once you go the R&C route, it is hard to get out (it took me yearsssssss)
Even though the works for credit analyst can be boring, you have a chance to make decisions based on your studies on the case. If you are the type of people like to make sale jobs difficult and having joy from other people miseries, this is the job for you. LOL
