Have had a pretty okay family relationship growing up. Recently a parent saw some health issues and I’m feeling pretty guilty for picking an office that’s been quite far from them, which I picked so that I could “experience life” some more. Feeling selfish

Did they have the health issues when you picked the office? If so, don't worry. Even if they did, I think most parents would want their children to live their own lives, rather than the child refusing to move on. (Granted, there are also plenty of helicopter parents who don't want to cut the cord, but that's not healthy, and doesn't sound like your situation.)

Don't feel selfish - what you have done is completely normal and your family understands that everyone needs to live their life and experience it to the full. No one knows what is in store - as long as you keep in touch and help them wherever and however you can, that is all you can possibly do. Good luck!

I felt the same way and I tell them they can move closer. They lived their life wherever they wanted to and now it’s my turn and they can follow if they choose. I don’t love them any less but moving a couple hours of a flight away helped me grow so much and I do not envy those who stayed in the same town, married people in their friend group while I have met so many new people and friendships I cherish.

Unless you stole their insulin when you moved away, there’s nothing to feel guilty about

Just my opinion, but I don’t think someone who is selfish would feel “selfish” about this. I think you’re just wishing you were a little closer to spend more time with them. Sounds like a good trait

You parents want you to be happy! They’re proud of you!

It’s normal to feel guilty but it’s normal to live your own life too. It gets better with age, OP.

My thought is to cancel the ones w an annual fee (just bought a house so no immediate need for higher credit limit). Does this make sense?
