Was let go - big4 consultant focused on M&A

like

Same here. Was let go 3 weeks ago, also M&A

DT’er (new DDV name) here, I’ve been looking for signs but have not seen any. DT has some form of a bench again (finally) but it’s mostly new joiners awaiting more ideal first deployments. PE assignments are slowing because of how stupid expensive leverage is getting but it’s being offset by an uptick in corporate divestiture work.

Over the last few months friends in other practices have gotten coach/relationship leader guidance to buckle up and do their best to stay utilized. I have not heard of those conversations in M&A. Had a few DT peers recently hit the bench but they didn’t stay more than a week or two.

FWIW as a firm we don’t historically layoff for macro reasons. We under-recruit and pay for it when times are too busy in exchange for stability when it’s tough. Other practices may have to cut but looking at our bench size and pipeline I don’t get the feeling we’re first up to cull if it comes down to it.

like

+1. I think the only challenge will be if things stay in this uncertain space for 6+ more months. But the minute there's a sense macro is getting better or worse, deal makers will pounce

EY is okay

Why?

I see Partners at Deloitte sharing job postings on LinkedIn as recent as today. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some performance related edits but don’t see mass layoffs happening given how terribly it played out last time.

What is DDV at pwc?

With some reshuffling, you can add a 6th pillar to that list now - human capital (change, comms, culture, org design, HR). To an earlier point, ISD can be heavy project management. But in HC, and the other pillars, you usually have an opportunity to do strategic post close work (just my experience)

Which office? Location?

Yes it’s in full force already you will get your notice on Monday

That’d be a first - is that because of slowness in business or just periodic low performance correction?

Again posting since my last post did not got attention. Wanted to ask whether it's good to switch to big 4 India advisory role from a mid tier organization dealing in tech and ops. Additionally, they offered just very low percentage on current CTC saying that I am coming to a big brand.
Plus my current financial situation is stressful and I accepted the offer on certain conditions but now hr or the firm but saying we can't committ you. Any suggestions.

Had a fight with my MD or let's say more like argument. After that the next 2 months was endless nitpicking and pulling me for mistakes that aren't really in my control.

Post 3 months, I apply for a transfer. Transfer process delayed for some process reasons
No negatives/issues in my f22 feedback. Utilization above target. Way Above average
Recently fired without reason
Who should I escalate to?

One of my senior managers is a boomerang and told me she was laid off when she was 7 months pregnant about 10 years ago. I think she was a senior or manager. She was in a specific group and everybody was laid off. It wasn’t performance based.

Would you work at your company again if you were laid off?

At some Big 4 companies there is a Partner / Principal group that has equity and are part owners of the business and an equivalent Managing Director group that does not have equity and are essentially employees.

How does it work at McKinsey / Bain ? Do those same distinctions exist across partner types, owner vs non owner?

Anyone dealt with age discrimination at work or thought they were fired because of it? I have a strong hunch I was let go because I'm older than most of the team and they're trying to get a "fresh perspective." To me it just sounds like they're firing anyone over 50.
