Did RSM just replace Adobe Acrobat XI with DC?
Stay. Big4 sucks.
You're two levels past senior with manager at rsm, plus at this stage dont need big 4 in your resume. Seems like an easy decision to me.
Why would you want to give up your internal network and the promotion? Switching will have inevitable set backs as they test your skills, you’ll get the clients nobody wants, and you’ll have to prove yourself all over again?
RSM has the supervisor level, so it's your 5th/6th year. I wouldn't risk the move and maybe not making manager next year. Why do you want Big 4? Jump to industry? Just stay and try to make partner at RSM
RSM OP I feel you on alllll of that (similar situation) but I also raised my hand consistently and poked my CA/partner/OMP about needing a change bc I wasn’t feeling it anymore and they made it happen. But that doesn’t happen just because, it happens bc you make it happen. RSM isn’t going to let you go if they can help it but you gotta facilitate it on your end too
It humors me that there is an automatic assumption that I haven't spoke up about the items that I'm not happy with. I have...for a year. And now I'm done. I've spoken to my CA, other managers/senior managers, and partners. I've gotten nothing but lip service and am done with the team I'm on, and the firm in general. Glad to hear that RSM is the place for some, but it's not for me.
RSM OP you asked for advice... and made no mention that you have already tried to address the issues. Don’t take it personally.... but in general people just leave vs. trying to address the problems. It sounds like you know the answer you want... so switch. Your energy about the firm isn’t healthy for you then and probably for your office/other team members. But have a clear understanding that public accounting is public accounting.... you’ll be trading one team/set of politics for another.. so really try to get to know the new team to see if it’s worth it or just get out in general.
Grass aint always greener
RSM OP What is it that you don’t like about RSM? Grass isn’t always greener. If it was manager I would still be hesitant only because there are intangible benefits I feel with being with RSM. If you don’t feel loyal it doesn’t sound like your with the right team so maybe the switch would be right for you.
Unfortunately RSM doesnt have the same type of recognition or pull for exit ops. it's easier to become partner, but if you are planning on exiting I would switch.
Not worried about starting new. Plan is to stay in PA, just not a big fan of RSM. What would you do if Big4 offer was for manager?
They won’t do it
A large part is the team I'm on. Minimal expectations set yet people still struggle and push blame to other people.
OP - if you aren’t happy with the firm, you will likely underperform on your potential. Maybe you should switch.
I'm ahead of where I should be and am consider a high performer (game changer the last two years), I'm performing well because I know that I'm still employed by RSM. I'm just not happy while doing it, and haven't been for a while.
RSM OP have you talked to your managers or partners to have a candid discussion? They can’t fix anything unless they know it’s broken. Game changer isn’t thrown around lightly - so they obviously value your contributions. Water the grass and be the change you want!
Go big 4
Big 4
OP, you’re not going to find better equity at B4. Stick it out, but seek other opps within the firm.
