Definitely, just brush it off and move on. Very likely they are more worried about their own performance during the call than yours.

Yeppers, and I’m sure it’ll happen again. I just ask myself why I was embarrassed, so I can work on it for the next time. Lack of knowledge to counter their arguments? It’s just an experience/practice issue so I’ll keep learning then. General call etiquette issue? Maybe I should get more sleep the night before so I’m not a zombie that can’t piece together coherent sentences.

Yes and it still haunts me at night at random times. But you do get better with time and experience.

Top tech companies: You don't know our stack? That's OK, we just want to hire the best engineers. We know you can learn the rest.

Mediocre companies and their recruiters: What? You don't have (3, 5, 10!) years of experience in our stack? Pass. You know statically typed languages, OOP, JavaScript, learned TypeScript, but you haven't used TS on a project? Pass. LOL 🤡

The best is when they ask for X years experience on a technology that hasn't existed that long.

How long did it take you to adjust to your 1st in-house role? I started my first in-house role a few months ago. This job is exactly in-line with my law firm experience….but every time I join a call I feel like everyone is speaking a different language. There are just so many acronyms, company lingo terms I’m not familiar with & company-specific processes. I’m just wondering when everything will start to “click”….because right now I’m super overwhelmed.

6th year biglaw associate in HOU. Long considered a move in-house but overwhelmed on where to start. Any recommendations on TX recruiters specializing in-house? Also planning to check LinkedIn and other resources. Welcome advice on searching generally, resume (haven’t touched since LS), etc. Interested in HOU and DAL (though not trad energy) and my practice is roughly split between M&A/PE transactions and capital markets (SPACs, trad IPOs, HY, Section 13/16 reporting, etc.). Thanks in advance.

I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm. How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I want to give the job a real shot - and i know the transition to in-house can be jarring…but I also don’t want to spend too much time in a job that is a wrong fit.
