At the end of the day you must have both. If you can only have one, it better be the side that’s signing your check. Not THE check to the firm, the one you’re putting in your account. While you may keep your client ok, the fact is you’re a consultant and will either need to perform to those standards or you’ll be short for this job. I struggled with this too, but the secret is to view “best practices” as bowing bumpers and find the degrees of freedom to do you within those bounds. The better you get, the wider those degrees of freedom get.
Calls becoming domesticated. At Deloitte it means 0 if you do a great job and the client loves you if your leadership does not. While if your leadership thinks you do a good job but the client hates your gut you may be top rated. That’s just consulting life
True as others have said. Have really good rapport with all of my different clients but not the case with all project leadership. That's why I always say that good solid work at Deloitte, which actually help clients, are looked down upon and a lot of frivolous, cosmetic work are championed. And don't get me started on the ass kissing.
FYI external clients are providing feedback this year! Keep your head up!
