That feeling when a freelance job asks you back to work on the same client but for 30% less earnings
Transitioned into consulting post-MBA (1.5 years ago) and generally enjoyed the experience. Since I joined my comp has gone up ~13% and I’ve liked my project teams but in my most recent review talk my partner told me he thought I was ready to be promoted and had advocated for me but there was an HR rule against it and I was on-track to be promoted in 6 months. Since then I’ve learned that one of my classmates (started 2-3 months before me due to COVID) was promoted last cycle.
Been working on mostly (about 70%) public sector policy and strategy at Big 4 for most of my career. Often go up against MBB on RFPs and have a decent win rate. Would I be too senior to come in as a lateral hire? I guess it’s all about client networks at this level, and being government, it’s locationally dependent - so which markets have need?
Has anyone got a good examples of a PM resume? My background is in consulting and my resume was project based. Now that I’m a PM, I’m unsure how to structure it. At moment I’ve listed my current job with 4/5 bullets, then my previous consulting job with 4 projects listed beneath with 4 bullets per project. Any thoughts or advice?
I work for a technology consulting firm, have a little over 5 years experience in the financial services industry, largely performing Business Analyst roles. I want to work remotely for the rest of my life, ideally never stepping into a client’s office again. Anyone have advice on how to achieve this? Should I be switching to another industry (financial services seems to have a barrier to entry, which means less competition, and is why I’ve remained there)? Is contracting a better option?

Been practicing a year now. Of 6 attorneys, 4 will be retiring soon, and I was brought in to hopefully take over. I am troubled: first that my partners largely provide me with no guidance. They handed me a client with a large quantity of fairly straightforward casework and have been hands off since. There also hasn’t been any talk of a raise/performance review. How should I ask for guidance/mentor ship? How do I ask for a raise, or should I presume one is coming?
Staffed on an impossible project that will likely doom to fail. Project budget and time both cut in half from original forecast. What to do? Why are we forced to sign sht contracts like this? Start looking for a new job?
Recommendations on a company/job in consulting? Currently an investigator analyst with Guidehouse for a project that is expected to run through the end of the year. Bachelor’s in Business. Working on CFE and MBA. Prior jobs are in state auditing and criminal investigations. I’m new to consulting but I enjoy it so far and would like to remain remote.
Tough senior client shared really positive feedback 💪🎉 feeling like this week is off to a good start! ☺️
Got an offer to start 8/31. If I put in my 30 days now, what’s the likelihood that I don’t get my PBB next week? For context I’m an SM leading an ongoing integration w/ lean team and supporting a second project as an SMR. Pros: - don’t need to wait until 8/30 to leave - team figures out how to backfill - I can start transitioning internal initiatives before our annual plans are due Cons: - no PBB (I’m expecting 30%). - A week less of pay I’d otherwise take off
Is it possible to do well in this career while you also don't care about the client's problems? I've only ever been told I'm great at the job, I get good ratings, build good relationships with clients and internal people alike. But I'm doing this because the pay is decent and I can do it well. Deep down I don't care even a little about the problems my clients have, and hearing some of their questions/feedback often makes me lose respect for them. Should I do this just because I'm good at it?
Anyone else start making PPT presentations thinking. “This is entirely unnecessary fluff and will never be looked at at again. For some reason we must come up with a detailed plan that will not survive its first day to a client that uses all the agile terminology but will only accept a waterfall plan.”
Looking to switch careers but feel like I have no direction. I hate banking - I literally couldn’t care less about my deals and my teammates are pricks. Don’t think I want to do PE deal team. NEED work life balance, want something client facing / senior exposure. What can I do to figure out what kind of jobs I’ll like? Thinking about IR / fundraising but don’t want to be a glorified admin. Not sure about corp strat either. Miserable at my current job. bad to quit w/o something lined up?
I’ve been seeing some project management roles in industry that I’d like to apply for, but most of my current projects have been risk and controls based. Would it be a stretch/dishonest to tailor my resume to fit those roles? I think I’d be a good fit and have the core skills for the work. I’d like to become a technical project manager eventually.
Anyone could share with me a figure that show in a glance why my client should link KPI and media earned, to pay us? (and ultimately how much pourcentage he should pay us)
Happy fly day ladies! I am stuck in a role and project that make me dread going to work each week. What advice do you have to stay positive?
Does anyone else stutter when they’re stressed? New project, leadership is super tough and I’m still acclimating to pace. Never stuttered before but once a week or so I do and it freaks me out
Your best “lateral leadership” moves. How do you get senior employees at client site to step out of their comfort zone of low-risk behavior?
For the managers and above in here. What are your most important criteria when rating a senior staff/consultants? How can a SC standout to you on a project?
I just received a job offer for a position that better aligns with my skills and education. It’s also something I want to do and would get me out of banking, so to speak. The proposed salary offer is only 10% more than what I am making now, though. I currently have a fully remote job and have tons of free time and flexibility. I love my current job as it affords me time with my kids and it’s stress free. The new job is in an office setting and will have more responsibility. Not sure what to do?
Advice on dealing with clients who are super lazy / really rely on you to do everything? Our team delivered everything, but they didn’t know how to apply a filter on excel so asked us to add a filter / other silly asks If it happens a couple times fine, but I’m quickly finding out this client is just pushing all their day to day work to us...I’m looking for guidance on how folks approach / engage these types of clients
So my wife basically said she doesn’t want to have sex anymore. Don’t want to do anything about it. After couple kids, doesn’t feel it anymore. Also said it wasn’t anything I did and there’s no one else. I understand women’s body changes after child birth but can’t help thinking it’s gonna suck being in a sexless marriage. We’re still attractive and haven’t turned into couch potatoes…yet Happy Thanksgiving!
Ugh, I'm so sick of being interrupted! Any tips on how to prevent this? Let's not make this a gender issue. Genuinely want help.

Do you think Apple and Amazon fight over who's the first A in FAANG like BCG and Bain over MBB?
Hello, My current H1B expires in Aug 2022 and extension will be filed in Feb 2022 with premium processing. Can I travel out of USA using the previous visa stamp in April 2022 or do I need to get a new stamp with new expiration date at the consulate office in my home country for entering at port of entry when I return?
Hello fishes, I got email from Accenture stating you did not clear skill interview required for this role. We are u able to proceed with your candidature. Is there any chance HR might call after this ? Performed exceptionally well for other questions.except the online coding tool. Not sure why I was asked to code suddenly. I explained the logic used and code was compiling without any error.but they needed exact output in the tool. Any thoughts?
Could anyone give PwC Director (Risks - ESG - Technology - Asset Management) Compensation for an International hire? PwC UK

Hi IQVIA fishes! Curious if anyone is working in their custom market research shop (previously alphaimpactrx). I’m seeing a few job postings and considering applying. I’d love to hear thoughts on culture etc.

Is the H1B approval rate down this year? Have any big companies stopped petitioning? Did Trump’s executive order make the process more expensive for employers ?
Can you help me consider Microsoft and Salesforce TC? I currently work at MIcrosoft at the L61 level with a TC of $210K. The Salesforce offer is for SMTS with $190k + $200k/4 yrs + 15% bonus. Does this sound like a smart move?
Still facing a $17k loss on PSTH. Should I cut bait? Learned my lesson already but unsure if I should continue to ride it out.
