I can relate as well. That’s been my story for the last couple of years. I work in a corporate role (internal) in a professional services firm. There is a cabal of 2-3 senior people on the team who make everything about themselves and are quick to knock down anyone they see as a threat. The Director who we all report into is a nice guy but he only wants to take the winning side and frankly I am getting tired of it. I signed up to help my stakeholders realize value from their investments and I question how much of that I am really doing. I feel all I do is don battle gear and wage war. Looking for internal or external exits.

Many types like this love Trump. Birds of a feather...
..through and witnessed is just crazy. From insecure Senior folk, to ego/power tripping Managers, that have actively tried to sabotage my endeavours/have said inappropriate things to my face. I’m tired!!
Consulting is such a bizarre thing, truly a playground for narcissists/sociopaths. I was not ready!! I still cannot get my head around the insecurity aspect.. some of these people are well respected in the industry, earn good money and still come to work to belittle/sabotage/toy with other people? Nah, I just don’t get it.🤦🏽♀️
Experienced that at Accenture.
Same here Accenture1...but you know what? I nipped that schit in the bud right then and there. What they meant for evil I used for good and it back-fired on them. Now they don't mind-uck with me no more.
Yes, I was fearful my standing up for myself would get me fired but I had 10mos expenses saved up and I let the chips fall where they may. The worst that could happen would be to explain my termination but the best I won't have to work at a company that devalues me on the daily.
I had one that praised my work face to face only to slam me in the review. My counselor said it was the worst review he’s read.
This happened to me a few years ago at Deloitte. Consensus panel was done much differently and I had advocates from my project in the room that called him out.
I hear you. IBM too? I experienced it at Deloitte.
IBM has been a proper eye-opener for me, there’s too much that goes on unchecked here. Please can you elaborate on your experience at Deloitte and how you coped?
Boss in industry (just left consulting) is going to sell me short, I can already see it happening. Still wants me to do extra work, like planning happy hours tho, I’m not a maid.
I will be looking for another exit once COVID dies down.
There will be people like there wherever you go.
I understand, so how do you break away from this pattern within the firm then?
Agree OP.
