Have you ever taken a break in your career? How do you justify the same to the HRs?

I personally don't feel the need to justify/don't like that they ask but whatever. I just say personal or health reasons, and that I felt confident in the experience I had before I took the break etc. I honestly don't think HR should ask in the first place but oh well

Yeah, I think if you have medical evidence to prove it, it should be fine but otherwise, it's not their business IMO

Nah, your personal reasons are personal. If anything, you can give a brief overview of why you want to take that kind of time off but I don't believe it's in your best interest to give a detailed explanation. Unless it's a family emergency or something health-related, I don't think HR is too happy with people taking long-term breaks like that.

I took a break of 4 months after working 2 years. I just said I wanted to travel and they didn't ask any further questions. If they show hesitance about the gap, then it's better to avoid that kind of company

I think as the workplace has evolved, especially since the pandemic hit, taking time away from work isn't seen as taboo as it used to. There is a major case to made for wlb, and sometimes that work aspect needs to be balanced by an experience of life - whatever that may mean to a person.

I have always kept at least one small project running so that I can use it to fill in any "big" gaps. I might work too much 😟

Hi all, has anyone in supply chain taken one of the certification exams? (CPSM, CPSD, CSCP) Does it help in any way besides refreshing contents about supply chain? I was thinking might be a good way to strengthen my resume (most of my career in investment analysis) but not really sure if it really brings that much value. Any insights appreciated. #supplychain #cpsm #cpsd #cscp #education #certifications

Hi ladies, just in need of some encouragement or inspirational stories about pivoting to a new career. I’m at a large established brand name firm doing boring stuff& just got a strong offer (2x my last year TC+promoted title) to do real estate. Very surprised as the firm is relatively under the radar but intrigued to see many partners in RE there are women! Still, nervous about leaving a big recognizable place and about an absolutely different career path—would love to hear your thoughts!

Considering the FRM certification. Those who’ve taken it, how quant heavy is it? I have a compliance risk background and don’t have a deep math or statistics background. However, I want to expand my skillset. Any thoughts?

Help with comp negotiation: Was offered a mid level role with fast growing tech co valued at ~$6b. They are offering $140k base and 30k options (number of shares not $) vesting over 4 years. Likely annual bonus of either $20-40k or 10k shares. What’s a reasonable counter? Current offer base would be a pay cut for me, but I believe in the co.

What will you do with the “investment” part your bonus this year? Where will you put it and over what timeline? Normally I DCA over 2 months, but fear that I’m buying on top of a cliff this year
