Have you ever taken a break in your career? How do you justify the same to the HRs?

I personally don't feel the need to justify/don't like that they ask but whatever. I just say personal or health reasons, and that I felt confident in the experience I had before I took the break etc. I honestly don't think HR should ask in the first place but oh well

Yeah, I think if you have medical evidence to prove it, it should be fine but otherwise, it's not their business IMO

Nah, your personal reasons are personal. If anything, you can give a brief overview of why you want to take that kind of time off but I don't believe it's in your best interest to give a detailed explanation. Unless it's a family emergency or something health-related, I don't think HR is too happy with people taking long-term breaks like that.

I took a break of 4 months after working 2 years. I just said I wanted to travel and they didn't ask any further questions. If they show hesitance about the gap, then it's better to avoid that kind of company

I think as the workplace has evolved, especially since the pandemic hit, taking time away from work isn't seen as taboo as it used to. There is a major case to made for wlb, and sometimes that work aspect needs to be balanced by an experience of life - whatever that may mean to a person.

I have always kept at least one small project running so that I can use it to fill in any "big" gaps. I might work too much 😟

Is it normal for you to ever be “ghosted” by your administration? I feel like I’m constantly emailing, calling, texting, and meeting with them and nothing gets done. As soon as I leave their office, I’m ignored. If I email/text them a question or request, I’m ignored unless it benefits them. This is at a district where I travel between 3 schools and have 3 principals. They’re all like this and communication is especially important since I have to travel.

I’m worried about timing for different interviews. What is a reasonable amount of time to ask for after offer? Should I push up interviews that I really care about for offers I’m on the fence about?

What types of non-entry level exit opportunities are available to senior associates at BigLaw firms (i.e., working for a firm)? I know Knowledge Managment attorneys are on the rise, but any stories of people making the switch to Director of Professional Development or other positions like that? Any idea of compensation for these types of roles? Did you approach your own firm first or lateral elsewhere?

I have decided to apply to grad school and need to write a personal essay. Can y’all give any suggestions or advice on things to be sure to include? The schools didn’t provide questions to answer. My undergrad didn’t require a personal essay when I was admitted. Not exactly sure where to start. I am applying for a MSc Accounting for reference. Also applying to schools in London but live in the states.

Tired of being shamed by family for the precautions I’m taking to ensure my family, including 2-month-old, are not putting ourselves in any situation that may cause unnecessary risk of contracting covid.
