The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider unnatural
My arrogance/ego considers it beneath me to compete directly with those inferior to my level. So instead I coach them and let them shine and take credit on the backend for effective management.
Self-awareness. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Yes. Just as I've seen managers competing with their seniors. For example in meetings with partners when manager takes over conversation even tho senior did the work and is well capable presenting and showing they are good. What I do in those circumstances us to discuss with the manager directly and explain to them that they need to take a step back and let the partners see how good the senior is. And that its really a credit to their coaching and a good thing when there is outstanding senior on the team. And that we see it and know its nc managers did a great job coaching and leading.

Yes, it is. But this si more of a team culture thing. I have teams where our culture is that the preparer does live reviews even with thr partners, as long as thry are at least semi coherent and able to explain. And I have teams where partners expect SMs to do the live review with them. So it just depends. But I see iow its frustrating when someone else speaks about the work you did. Its just a team preference I think
My senior prepped cash so much faster than that intern...fight me.
Interesting why a manager would do that. I usually let my seniors and managers take over the meetings as they are able to and I can just add support. The PPMDs do the same with me with when we are meeting clients or prospect clients. I feel that helping my team members shine is the most rewarding part of the job. Also, that free up my time to do other things.
I feel like there are a lot of reasons why a manager might take credit for seniors work. In some cases it’s simply a matter of risk management, I’m telling you that as a manager I have reviewed this and believe it’s right. Sometimes if I’m new to an account, I’ll put myself in front of the partner more frequently to build their confidence in me as a manager. I think there’s actually very few times when a senior should be running the show because no matter how good they are, their ass is not on the line, and even if they think they are taking ownership, you don’t know what it is until your ass is on the line. Managers take complete responsibility for a project because it’s their ass if something goes wrong. Just doubt a senior can really fully appreciate that, and partners know it.
Lol this sounds like way too much effort and time that I wouldn’t have, but they probably exist.
I have nothing to offer, but I love this question. I love the second sentence even more. I’m LMAO and crying, because it’s true.
My experience has been less credit-taking and more social ostracism, hyper critical, ignoring, withholding training, giving vague nonanswers to questions to get me off a call, giving obviously bad advice for passing the CPA exam, probing for personal information, occasionally stating budgets for assignments were 1/3 of what they actually were, public put downs, literally growled at me lol
I’m not the only person who’s experienced this. But I will entertain the idea that I’m assuming the negative and personalizing things. I can focus on staying positive and making connections with others in the office. Thanks for your input.
