Have you noticed that it’s the low paying jobs and the nonprofit jobs the ones that still require cover letters? I find cover letters to be archaic and pretentious.

There was a job I was actually really excited about, for a legislation paralegal for a political non-profit. And they wanted a video cover letter. Immediately turned me off from it and I didn't apply.

That sounds weirdly interesting to me. Awful as a requirement but if I saw an application that maybe had it as an option instead of a cover letter, I’d be interested.

I *hate* cover letters and usually skip postings that require them unless I’m really interested in the role.

Having worked at a nonprofit in a non legal capacity, I would guess that their hiring process for legal support is tied to their process for all other employees. Like the same person determines all of it, and that person doesn’t know anything about what’s standard for the legal world.
