That’s white privilege for you
I actually transitioned from QA (contract) to being a PM pretty successfully — which is like night and day. A PM knew of my experience as a project coordinator and mentioned my name when they were looking for a PM role to fill. My VP asked me if I was interested and I said yes and eventually I became a full time PM. I let my work speak for itself and now they’re having me work on the automotive account (though current circumstances allowed that to happen). I would say a lot of the factors of me being able to transition from QA to PM was making my desires known to the right influential people, timing, and a lot of luck
It also depends on how you tweak your resumé to fit in the key words that they are looking for... most people will see 1:1, have to change it up if you are going to transition.
If you want to transfer within the same company, talk to the managers in that department.
There is a bit of white privilege for sure.
Figured as much. Just hoping for some positive experience. If I even crack through into the interview step, there seems to be no trust in an ability to adapt. Only been doing it my whole life, y’all
