That was me a couple of months back—I did so great at getting and staying fit last year, then around October a couple of major life events hit, including the unexpected death of my dad, and I just stopped working out completely. It wasn’t until April when I felt ready to get back to working out, amongst other things. But I was so discouraged because I knew all my progress from the prior year was gone. Eventually, I started small. 10 minute ab video here, 15 minute arm video there, and after a couple of weeks I got back on track to steady workouts. I still keep it short 15-40 min tops, but after just those first few weeks I started getting stronger. Now I can see my lean muscles coming back.
TL/DR - start small. Eventually you’ll work your way back to where you left off. Good luck!
Jane Fonda work out videos till you get your groove back
Muscle memory. 2 months is nothing and you'll be back to your old levels in no time.. just start with relatively lighter weights and keep pushing yourself until you reach the level you were at before.
Did you workout at a gym before? You’re just going to have to try something new, like walking, live virtual classes, maybe buy some equipment? Don’t go crazy, though, start with dumbbells and go from there. A fitness tracker helps too. Just start and keep at it!
Meet yourself where you are. I struggled (and still struggle) with negative self talk. You can use your pre-quarantine workouts as a goal to get back to. Or try something new like body weight exercises for a different challenge.
Don’t try to push yourself to your old goals – just remember that every little bit you do is better than doing nothing, and then do a little something.
Calisthenics
I felt similarly back in January. Agreed on starting small/ start with a workout that you enjoy (that doesn’t necessarily feel as “tough” for you to get through). For me, it was Pilates. Then slowly build up as you start to feel more confident/your strength comes back!
Do a different type of exercise than you’ve done before! Something totally new, so you can’t compare to previous performance. Do it for a couple of months, and then start incorporating your old exercises into the week.
Gyms opened up back in Texas. I went yesterday close to midnight in hopes of minimizing my risk and sparking some life back into these dead chest muscles.
Rising Star
Start small and start easy. If you're into running, start with a walk. If you're into strength training, check out some YouTube videos and just do 15-20 mins a few times a week
Build up to more time per day and more days per week. And think about what you want to do before hand so you're not wasting time looking for work it videos or thinking up your own exercises.
Just cut the old load by 50%_60% and start from there. Muscle memory is a thing and you’ll bounce back quicker than you think. No point in reminiscing what you could do, you don’t live in the past.
Try salt drop (@thesaltdrop) workouts on Instagram! The workouts are live and then saved to their IGTV. I hardly worked out before a few months ago but I love these SO MUCH I do them almost every day. I love Dino’s workouts especially. It’s honestly so fun and it’s given me more strength and confidence to try other workouts like running.
Two months is nothing. It takes your body a month to start losing muscle mass and it’s not just gonna melt off like a popsicle. Try doing some body weight stuff or getting some resistance bands so you can slow the rate of loss if you’re really concerned, but you should be fine after a couple weeks back at the gym.
I sprained my ankle very badly 2 years ago and couldn’t work out for ~3 months and I was back to pre-sprain workouts in 3 or 4 weeks.
Just. Start.
You can't change the past. You can only work on the future.
I had gained a ton of weight during my partners redundancy. A weight I had never been. I also lost just about all of my powerlifting gains.
Not fuck all I could do about it.
Just. Start.
