Good talking points:
- Your satisfaction with your projects so far
- Types of projects that interest you
- Your professional development goals
- How your current work aligns/misaligns with these goals
- Understanding what's in the pipeline for your groups practice, and how your skills and competencies may align with what's coming up
Just throwing it out there OP... if you called the meeting with the partner and are soliciting topics from the bowl, did you fail to put an agenda in the body of the invite for tomorrow...? If so, I’d go in and throw one in there ASAP. Then I’d strongly reflect on this as a learning point to never setup a meeting with anyone without some objectives or an agenda. We all want something from someone, let’s all be cognizant and respectful of each other’s time. No matter what level you are. Just my 2 cents and I support 5-10 partners on any given week. Good luck with the discussion I know your head is in the right place to nail down good topics for discussion!
Lmao please tell me that have a ppt thing is a joke. You show up for a counseling/check in call with a PowerPoint we are going to have issues
Uhhh did you call the meeting or did the partner?
A1 - Thanks for your advice. I positioned the meeting as a catch up and she was more than happy to schedule time with me. Just wanted to get a sense of what topics have worked for others when they have their career conversations.
@A1 is completely right. Always have at least ONE thing to talk about - I’d also have a PPT to illustrate whatever your idea/findings are around the subject. The higher you go, the busier you’ll get. Don’t waste anyone’s time, including yours.
If my coachee called a catch up and showed up with a PPT I’d LMFAO
Have you had any discussion with him / her prior ?
How is your chemistry with him/her? I will strategize accordingly.
Thanks so much c2! Extremely helpful!
@HC1 depends on what I’m talking about. If I’m pitching something (sales pursuit, internal engagement, etc) i like to have my thoughts organized.
If PPTs trigger you in any discussion you may have issues period champ.
M1 yes, first convo was when I joined the firm a while back just to get to know her
Bcg1 - I called the meeting- felt like it was time to connect again, but wanted to get a sense on what are some convo topics that have worked for people here in their experience
