Having a kid changes your monetary needs but it doesn’t change your value to the agency. If you can’t rig a raise for normal reasons, you’ll have to look elsewhere or make cuts. That said, apart from the actual medical costs of the birth, a child doesn’t have to be end of the world expensive.
If you are in NYC and need a day care it is the end of the world expensive

I don’t get why people about to have kids think they deserve raises. Does having a kid mean you added value to the company? Does it mean you started working harder? Staying later? Doing better work? Raises are for people who bust their ass, not people who forgot to put on a condom.

What sort of rationale have you put together for the raise? (Other than “having a kid.”) Show good-to-great work over the last six months and detail your contributions to the team in an objective-ish but flattering way.
Hr will say - we cannot adjust your salary based on your personal circumstances. So unless you have proof you are severely underpaid and below market value AND that your quality of work is exceptional then it will be difficult to convince your manager and finance that you are deserving of a raise. Best thing to do, is look for a job at a company you’d work at, and have current company give counter offer
