Try online therapy - employee assistance or your HR can tell you what your company subscribes to. You have have generally 6 free zoom-like sessions that are included but unlimited messaging support through their app, some are 24/7.
Don’t put so much emphasis on the right person now if you are struggling. Have a few sessions with anyone and see if it’s a fit. It’s not marriage. Get help so you can get the immediate burden off your chest.
They may also tell you if you need a psychiatrist who can prescribe medicine or if they can support you, or what to look for in a therapist based on your needs.
Thank you 🙏🏽
If it’s an emergency don’t be afraid to use support lines and the ER. If not I second the idea of ongoing therapy and potentially explore medication options with your physician.
If you have a good relationship with your PCP, they can at least start you on medication while you find a psychiatrist or therapist. It will probably take longer to get an appointment with a psychiatrist, and if you’re really down, you could at least try medication if needed from your PCP. Usually with medication, therapy is suggested in combination the medication anyway (at least to start) and you can then work with the appropriate doctors/therapists to determine a long term care plan.
