Having a tough time balancing staying at pre-IPO late-stage startup for 4 years for share vesting vs applying to new jobs to move up in title/salary/responsibilities. Base is low compared to what I could be making but major upside post-IPO on what my shares will be worth. Was anyone else in a similar position early in their career and have any thoughts?

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?

Im a mid-level associate who recently lateraled and one of the senior partners told me that he wants me to start using dictation software to cut the amount of time I am billing for certain tasks.
