Telling you manager you can't travel is akin to staying you're going to quit. Just get ahead of it and find a new job. What do you expect the manager to say? They can't say "oh well so and so doesn't have to travel" then the rest of the team would demand equal treatment. Quit is the best bet, second would take a non traveling rotation or role.

Don’t say quit consulting. That’s long term.

The same thing happened to me. Any decent manager will find ways to make this work. Express your commitment to the team and project but let him/her know that the travel has been wearing on your relationship and engage them in the problem solving by asking questions - “how do you manage this with your personal relationships” (depending on your relationship with your manager), “how can we reduce the travel burden on me/the team?” Good luck! I know how difficult this is.

Just say you’re hoping you can find ways to be flexible. I’ve found ways for my teams to spend 3 days on site instead of 4 and it has worked well and clients know to expect it. Your manager probably doesn’t want to be there 4 days a week either! Also look for chances to do non travel weeks when your clients are out or on the road. Plenty of ways practically to make this happen

I like your answer-first approach. You’re a true consultant. Tell you manager exactly what you told us but in a better way of course

Well, what's beating them up about travel? I think everybody goes through this, maybe if you're more specific we can speak to our experiences?

If I had my way none of us would travel. We were at the lower levels quite recently too

I feel your pain OP. This broke a relationship for me and the ones after ain’t been the same 😔

I’m struggling with trying to decide if I should go back to tax or maybe use my current experience to go into FP&A or a Finance related role. Advise please!
