Hi everyone, if you work in strategy and management consulting, and would be open to discussing further regarding your experiences and culture at your specific firm, please DM me! I’m trying to learn more as an undergrad. I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can through emailing and cold calling but I’m always open to connecting here too. L.E.K. Your GPA isn’t a requirement. I would remove it from the resume, but I don’t think there’s an issue with it. A 3.5 is good👍🏽 your resume formatting is fine but I would recommend moving education to the bottom, skills should be visible on top. Try revamping some of your accomplishments in your job description. It always works for me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made adjustments to my resume to align with the occupation I was applying for. Good Luck! You got this! ✨👏🏽
Well they are swamped in applications, a 4.0 with equal credentials would get an interview before you did, yes the GPA is probably an issue
maybe gpa, but you can overcome with other things. second year is hard

I don’t think there’s any issue with your gpa, its great. Applying to jobs is a numbers game sometime. Some people apply to one and get an offer, some people apply to 100 before getting an offer. Based on your graduation date it seems you just finished sophomore year so you still have a lot of time, even if looking for an internship or a post grad offer. Your resume is solid.
I don’t think it’s grades. I know some people at Google with lower GPAs than yours (I was their instructor).
In the redacted info, do you have a portfolio where you present this work in greater detail as case studies? If I was reviewing this, I’d want a greater understanding of your exact roles in your projects. Also, show me results - good and bad. How did you and the projects grow from it? Show me iterations.
Important- Don’t I lie or exaggerate. I’ve seen people get caught in lies during interviews. It’s an embarrassment you don’t want.
3.5 is great but Where are clubs? Hobbies? Leadership?
Things that speak to you being able to be part of a team not just a data drone. Try to weave in some interpersonal skills.
are you missing out on on campus interview spots? Or are you just cold applying online?
Coming from a nontarget school you may have to network a lot hard - find alums in companies you're interested in, DM on LinkedIn or connect via your school's career center.
Recommend working with a coach on Leland (joinleland.com) to help you land a role in big tech.
To be honest I believe it's a combination of your GPA and year. Most internships at brand name companies are for rising seniors. They won't usually give it to someone earlier in undergrad. My advice is, many of these companies have early insight programs where you can network and interact with the firm and they ate usually built for freshman and sophomores.
Thanks for the well thought out reply instead of just “GPA BAD LOL”
I️ think it’s just that you’re a sophomore. Higher GPA helps but yours is fine, anything above a 3.5 is pretty much set. I️ would reformat skills section and include any involvements on campus.
GPA does play an important role. Nevertheless, have you considered having you resume edited by a professional? Try www.prsnbranding. They do a great job with resumes.
I would suggest quantifying your impact in your experiences. A lot of bigger companies want to see more data points and learn how your contributions actively helped the company or organizations that you've previously worked for.
Don’t put your GPA on resume
Ignore the GPA advice. Instead of wasting time trying to bring it up and grind to get an A instead of A-, use that energy to make alumni connections. 80% of tech new hires knew someone in the company the were hired at. You can keep circling back to trying to break the resume algorithm but the truth is you really should be trying to circumvent the algorithm entirely
