Compensation

HCL wants me for cyber security. $110K that's 22% more than what I'm making now. I won't hit that until I make manager at ACN in 3 or 4 years. Currently SA. Stay or go?

Stay. Don’t leave for a lower tier firm.

Hcl is a body shop. Don't do it. I would say the same for wipro and tcs

No one gives a shit about brand name anymore. Once you have 1-2 brand names I would def go to a less recognized firm to do more impactful work. Also you’ll be playing catch-up at ACN. Always follow the money, once you’re in consulting you can always go back to the Shit4 or ACN if you really wanted.

Cyber Security is hot. Dont stick to a logo. It's not only about numbers, you should stay back only if you are doing some awesome stuff around cyber security.

OP, have you looked at what total comp would be at HCL vs. ACN, including 401k match, ESPP, health benefits, etc.? I am betting that 22% number will be much smaller if you do that. That being said, I know not much about HCL - if it seems like exciting work, good culture, and good long-term career opportunities (including exit opportunities), maybe it makes sense

SA1, unless I'm mistaken OP is saying it's the same type of work - not sure how impactful it is but typically offshore models are deployed for less impactful or critical work. Offshore resources are also a pain to work with unless they're highly competent OP, not sure what your job search process has been thus far or if the opportunity just came your way, but might be worth it to see what other opportunities there might be other than ACN/HCL. Neither seems super appealing based on your description. My opinion is that you'll have better exit opportunities to do the above coming from ACN as well - some recruiters might not care if you have less well known / lower tier firm like HCL as your current job, but I would suspect some of the better companies will care, at least for getting the initial interview

Haven't investigate the total comp. Absolutely agree with you about that and it's something I always look at. The work is the same as us. No difference because it's security. Culture will be meh as it's an Indian company and I have a feeling they want me because I'm located and American I'll be the face of HCL on client site managing off shore.

I'm in the security practice A1. Well my feeling on this is we all kinda do the same work. Implementing this IPS or that firewall. I just really enjoy the network I've built at Accenture. Just wish they would actually pay correctly. Last 3 years have been horrible for bonuses and raises and it's frustrating.

You got a good skill. A true network will help you irrespective of you are in the company or not. The network will follow you and your skills. I hope you have them in your LinkedIn. The internal network is less of a network more of a comfort zone.

110k for a mgr at ACN?

No company cares. It’s about your experience in consulting. As I said once you have a brand name or two it really doesn’t matter. I’ve worked at ACN and Deloitte now work for a small 500 person no name consulting firm and get lots of hits for top ex-consulting jobs.

P1, not in most practices for our C&M (consulting) resources...$156k for year 1 manager in my practice, which admittedly is higher than most. No clue what our security practice pays tho
